Changes in soil pH and addition of inorganic phosphate affect glyphosate adsorption in agricultural soil

Eduardo De Geronimo et al.

Summary: Glyphosate is widely used in Argentina, with strong adsorption to soil minerals that can be influenced by pH and the presence of phosphate. The study found that glyphosate has optimal adsorption at a certain pH, but its adsorption is significantly reduced by phosphate. These effects can be explained by slight changes in estimated surface potential.

Summary: This study determined equilibrium partition coefficients for NOM on FeS in marine sediments and built models using machine learning to predict the sorption of NOM onto minerals. The research found that functional groups characteristic of polysaccharides are the greatest positive predictors of NOM sorption onto FeS in marine sediment porewater pH.

Selective recovery of glyphosine from glyphosate mother liquor using a modified biosorbent: Competitive substitution adsorption

Yuanping Guo et al.

Summary: In this study, an easy to prepare, environmentally friendly, and highly efficient biosorbent was synthesized for the selective recovery of glyphosine from glyphosate mother liquor. The biosorbent exhibited fast adsorption rate and high adsorption capacity toward glyphosine and performed better under acidic conditions. It could be easily regenerated using an alkaline solution and maintained high removal efficiency even after 5 adsorption-desorption cycles. Competitive adsorption experiments revealed that the biosorbent showed higher adsorption affinity toward glyphosine compared with glyphosate and phosphorous acid, enabling the selective recycling of glyphosine. The adsorption mechanism was found to be associated with electrostatic attraction and hydrogen bonding between -NH3+ and glyphosine. The biosorbent can be considered an excellent candidate for the selective recovery of glyphosine from complicated industrial wastewater systems.

When RNA meets montmorillonite: Influence of the pH and divalent cations

Luis H. de Oliveira et al.

Summary: The study found that the interaction between ribonucleic acid and ion-exchanged montmorillonites is pH-dependent, and metal cations play a role in forming bridges between the mineral surface's negative charges and the phosphate groups of biomolecules during the adsorption process.

Glyphosate adsorption onto kaolinite and kaolinite-humic acid composites: Experimental and molecular dynamics studies

Fayang Guo et al.

Summary: This study investigated the molecular interactions between glyphosate and kaolinite and kaolinite-humic acid complexes. The results showed that kaolinite-humic acid complexes adsorb higher concentrations of glyphosate than kaolinite alone due to more adsorption sites and hydrogen bonding interactions present. Molecular dynamics simulations further demonstrated that glyphosate molecules adsorb parallel to the surface of kaolinite and the composites through hydrogen bonding, with humic acid facilitating the adsorption through the creation of H-bond networks.

Modelling the Extraction of Pectin towards the Valorisation of Watermelon Rind Waste

Daniel Alexander Mendez et al.

Summary: This study utilized an experimental design to investigate the impact of extraction parameters on watermelon rind pectin, resulting in the discovery of novel compositional features and the potential to produce customized pectin ingredients with wider application scope. Optimum conditions yielded WRP with comparable purity and molar mass but higher branching degree compared to traditional pectin sources. Different extraction conditions generated pectin structures with varying characteristics.

Investigation of phosphate removal mechanisms by a lanthanum hydroxide adsorbent using p-XRD, FTIR and XPS

Lin Zhang et al.

Summary: Macroscopic batch experiments and microscopic spectroscopic characterization were employed to study the phosphate adsorption process onto lanthanum hydroxide adsorbent. The results showed that the relatively low La release after phosphate adsorption suggested the formation of surface co-precipitation of lanthanum phosphate. The maximum adsorption capacities and surface configurations of lanthanum hydroxide varied at different pH values during the adsorption of phosphate.
