Actionable processes of care important to patients and family who experienced a prolonged intensive care unit stay: Qualitative interview study

Louise Rose et al.

Summary: The study identified 22 actionable processes important to prolonged ICU stay survivors and family members, categorized under physical recovery, patient psychological well-being, and family relations. The findings suggest the need for QI tools that standardize the delivery of these processes in clinical practice, highlighting the crucial role nurses can play in leading this effort.

Informing the standardising of care for prolonged stay patients in the intensive care unit: A scoping review of quality improvement tools

Laura Allum et al.

Summary: This study conducted a scoping review to summarize the characteristics, development, implementation, and outcomes of quality improvement tools used in the intensive care unit (ICU). The study found that most tools were designed for use during rounds and focused on standardizing clinical processes such as sedation, ventilation and weaning, and analgesia management. However, there were few tools specifically designed for addressing the unique needs of patients with prolonged ICU stay, highlighting the urgent need for such tools.
