COVID-19-related posttraumatic stress disorder in adults with lived experience of psychiatric disorder

Summary: The prevalence of COVID-19-related posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in individuals with lived experience of a psychiatric disorder is uncertain. This study investigated the association between traumatic stress symptoms and various factors in a sample of 1571 adults with lived experience of psychiatric disorder during the COVID-19 pandemic. The results showed that younger age, lower income, lower social support, financial worries, and previous experience of PTSD/complex PTSD were associated with traumatic stress symptoms. Depression and anxiety measured in June 2020 predicted traumatic stress symptoms at a follow-up 20 weeks later in November 2020. There is a need for further research to establish valid prevalence estimates of COVID-19-related PTSD.

Screening for Dark Personalities The Short Dark Tetrad (SD4)

Summary: Research suggests the importance of including sadism in the constellation of dark personalities, and a four-factor measure including sadism was developed. Through exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis, the position of sadism in the four-factor structure was confirmed, along with its correlations with the Big Five and adjustment. The study also revealed a novel link between sadism and sexuality, while showing no association with maladjustment.

Is the COVID-19 pandemic even darker for some? Examining dark personality and affective, cognitive, and behavioral responses to the COVID-19 pandemic

Summary: Research suggests that individuals' personality traits are relevant to epidemiology and public-health communication in a contagious-disease context. Normal-range traits, especially agreeableness and conscientiousness, are associated with endorsement of social distancing, hygiene practices, and the appeal of health messages. On the other hand, dark traits predict lower endorsement of health behaviors.
