How to report E-values for meta-analyses: Recommended improvements and additions to the new GRADE approach

Maya B. Mathur et al.

Summary: This paper proposes improvements to the GRADE guidelines for assessing sensitivity to uncontrolled confounding in meta-analyses of nonrandomized studies. The specific proposal suggests comparing the E-value with the strength of association of a reference confounder, considering the possibility of confounding bias that is heterogeneous across studies.

Clinical Significance of De Novo Donor Specific Antibody Based on the Type of Kidney Transplantation

Woo Yeong Park et al.

Summary: This study retrospectively analyzed 1114 patients who underwent kidney transplantation and investigated the clinical significance of dnDSA based on the type of transplantation. The results showed no significant difference in the incidence of dnDSA based on the type of transplantation, but all recipients with dnDSA had poor allograft survival. Compared to P-LDKT, NP-LDKT and DDKT with dnDSA showed a poor prognosis. Therefore, continuous and rigorous surveillance of DSA is needed among NP-LDKT and DDKT.

Methods to Address Confounding and Other Biases in Meta-Analyses: Review and Recommendations

Maya B. Mathur et al.

Summary: Meta-analyses play a critical role in cumulative science, but can lead to misleading conclusions if the primary studies they include are biased. This article provides practical guidance for addressing biases that affect the internal validity of studies in meta-analyses, focusing on sensitivity analyses to quantify potential biases. Various sensitivity analysis methods are reviewed, with a focus on recent developments that are easy to implement and interpret. The importance of routinely reporting sensitivity analyses in meta-analyses of potentially biased studies is emphasized.

Summary: This retrospective cohort study compared the characteristics of patients who received preemptive kidney transplant (PKT) and those who did not. The results showed that PKT recipients were more likely to be White, have polycystic kidney disease or glomerulonephritis, receive a living donor organ, and be transplanted at certain transplant centers.

Summary: The study found a gradual decrease in preemptive kidney transplantation over successive years, associated with an increase in diabetes and a decrease in glomerulonephritis as underlying causes of transplantation. Patients with pretransplant dialysis duration longer than 6 months showed increased risk of graft failure.
