Chemical and photophysical studies on the interaction of reactive oxygen species with carbonylated diazo derivatives: Their chromogenic, fluorescent detection and mechanistic investigation

Samridhi Patel et al.

Summary: Reactive oxygen species (ROS) such as H2O2 and singlet oxygen (1O2) play important roles in living systems. It is necessary to determine the accurate concentrations of H2O2 and 1O2 in different systems for safety purposes. In this study, a chemodosimeter approach using diazo compounds was used to investigate the interactions of H2O2 and 1O2 through spectroscopy and determine the reaction mechanisms. The isolated products showed an unusual denitration reaction during interactions with H2O2 and the formation of an interesting blue-colored para-quinone derivative.

A dual-state-emission chalcone-based supramolecular probe for ratiometric detection of penconazole in environmental samples

Chao Song et al.

Summary: In this study, a supramolecular fluorescent probe OPyCH@ALB was developed for the ratiometric detection of Penconazole (PEN). The probe showed rapid response (10 s), high sensitivity (LOD = 0.28 μM, 76 ppb), and high selectivity, with a visible fluorescence color change from green to red. Portable paper-based test strips were fabricated for on-site monitoring of PEN, and the probe was successfully used for qualitative and quantitative analysis of PEN in ground water and soil, as well as on-site recognition of PEN on the surface of grapes. This method provides a convenient and affordable tool for the rapid monitoring of PEN in various settings.

1,8-Naphthalimide derivatives as probes for protein surface hydrophobicity

Frank Betancourt et al.

Summary: The synthesis and evaluation of four 4-aryl-N-methoxyethyl-1,8-naphthalimide derivatives showed high fluorescence in chloroform but significant fluorescence quenching in polar solvents. One derivative in particular exhibited a drastic fluorescence quenching in methanol. Dilution of DMSO solutions of other derivatives with water also led to fluorescence quenching. In aqueous solutions, the presence of bovine serum albumin resulted in significant increases in fluorescence intensity for two of the derivatives.
