The dry sliding wear rate of a Fe-based amorphous coating prepared on mild steel by HVOF thermal spraying

Hamid Al-Abboodi et al.

Summary: Wear-resistant amorphous coatings with a thickness of about 300 mm were deposited on a mild steel substrate using the HVOF thermal spray method. The hardness of the coating increased significantly after vacuum heat treatment, with the longer amorphous phase resulting in higher hardness. The coatings exhibited low porosity and excellent wear resistance, especially after heat treatment at 650 degrees C. Dry sliding wear tests showed good wear resistance of the coatings.

Evaluation of tribological performance for laser textured surfaces with diverse wettabilities under water/oil lubrication environments

Huixin Wang et al.

Summary: Friction and wear are important issues for engineering applications. In this study, laser-based surface treatment methods were used to modify the properties of textured surfaces, resulting in superhydrophobic surfaces with reduced friction coefficient. The surface texture, wettability, and chemistry have combined effects on the tribological performance.

Wetting Behavior of Wear-Resistant WC-Co-Cr Cermet Coatings Produced by HVOF: The Role of Chemical Composition and Surface Roughness

Pavel Komarov et al.

Summary: Superhydrophobic WC-Co-Cr cermet coatings were prepared using high velocity oxy-fuel (HVOF) spraying, with additional surface treatment by silicone oil. The study found that microstructure, phase composition, and surface topography significantly influenced the water contact angle and surface free energy of the coatings. The coatings showed good robustness in slurry abrasion response tests, indicating a need for further research on surface modifications for sacrificial applications.

Tribological behavior of femtosecond laser-textured leaded brass

Junyuan Huang et al.

Summary: The tribological behavior of femtosecond laser-textured leaded brass samples was studied under different surface roughness and lubrication conditions. The coefficient of friction exhibited consistent changes under various lubrication conditions, with the roughness affecting the friction coefficient. The wear mechanisms were mainly adhesive wear and abrasive wear, with differences in specific wear mechanisms observed under various friction conditions.

Assessment of the Condition of Anilox Rollers

Arnas Savickas et al.

Summary: This study investigates the wear and cell clogging of anilox rollers in printing houses in the Baltic states, revealing that over half of the rollers are not washed properly, higher line screen rollers tend to be more clogged, and it is important to take measurements at more than three locations to assess the reliability of more worn rollers.

The effect of micro-texture on wear resistance of WC/Co-based tools during cutting Ti-6Al-4V

Xiaoyan Sun et al.

Summary: This study investigated the influence of different textured directions on cutting performance by using femtosecond laser to create textures on the rake face of carbide-tipped cutting tools. Results showed that parallel textured tools could significantly reduce friction coefficient, decrease rake face wear, and improve surface roughness compared to untextured tools.

Nanosecond UV laser induced subsurface damage mechanics of cemented tungsten carbide

Quanli Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the subsurface damage characteristics of WC/8Co cemented carbide ablated by a nanosecond UV laser through experimental and simulation methods. The results show that thermal stress induced by high temperature gradient is one of the reasons for subsurface damage behaviors. Severe cracking and crushing behaviors are observed in the re-solidified areas and heat-affected zones.
