Effects of dietary wild bitter melon (Momordica charantia var. abbreviate Ser.) extract on glucose and lipid metabolism in HFD/STZ-induced type 2 diabetic rats

Kai Sun et al.

Summary: This study aims to explore the potential mechanism of action of wild bitter gourd extracts in preventing diabetes. The results show that the ethanol extract of wild bitter gourd has the best ability to regulate glucose and lipid metabolism. It effectively reduces blood glucose and lipid levels, alleviates glucose intolerance and insulin resistance, and inhibits oxidant responses and inflammatory damage. Mechanism studies suggest that it may act through the AMPK/PI3K signaling pathway. These findings are important for the utilization of wild bitter gourd as a dietary intervention strategy to prevent diabetes and related metabolic abnormalities.

HM-chromanone suppresses lipid accumulation by modulating AMPK/SREBP-1c pathway in ob/ob mice

Bo Ra Moon et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of HM-chromanone on lipid accumulation in adipose tissue and liver of ob/ob mice. HM-chromanone treatment resulted in reduced body weight, liver weight, fat mass, and fat size. Furthermore, HM-chromanone administration decreased serum lipid levels and hepatic lipid accumulation. These effects were mediated by the activation of AMPK and inhibition of SREBP-1c, PPAR gamma, C/EBP alpha, FAS, and ACC in adipose tissue and liver.

Cyanidin-3-O-glucoside as a Nutrigenomic Factor in Type 2 Diabetes and Its Prominent Impact on Health

Iga Bartel et al.

Summary: Type 2 diabetes is a global health problem caused by a combination of environmental and genetic factors. In order to prevent and mitigate the negative consequences of type 2 diabetes, a nutritional diet rich in bioactive compounds such as polyphenols, including cyanidin-3-O-glucosidase (C3G), can be beneficial. C3G has been shown to have positive effects on diabetic parameters, including reducing inflammation, blood glucose levels, and postprandial hyperglycemia, as well as regulating gene expression related to the development of type 2 diabetes.

Quercetin ameliorates nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) via the promotion of AMPK-mediated hepatic mitophagy

Peng Cao et al.

Summary: This study aims to further elucidate the potential mechanism of action of quercetin in alleviating nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). It was found that quercetin prevents NAFLD through AMPK-mediated mitophagy, suggesting that promoting mitophagy via an upregulation of AMPK may be a promising therapeutic strategy against NAFLD.

Alleviation of Fufang Fanshiliu decoction on type II diabetes mellitus by reducing insulin resistance: A comprehensive network prediction and experimental validation

Weibo Dai et al.

Summary: This study investigated the therapeutic efficacy and potential mechanisms of Fufang Fanshiliu decoction (FFSLD) in treating type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) using a network pharmacological approach and experimental evaluation. The results showed that FFSLD significantly reduced blood glucose levels and reversed abnormal levels of insulin, glucagon, triglyceride, total cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol in T2DM mice. Network pharmacological analysis predicted that FFSLD's active compounds might be correlated with numerous targets involved in T2DM, and the mechanism may be related to insulin resistance. Experimental validation suggested that FFSLD could alleviate T2DM by regulating multiple signaling pathways.

In Vivo Assessment of the Effects of Mono-Carrier Encapsulated Fucoxanthin Nanoparticles on Type 2 Diabetic C57 Mice and Their Oxidative Stress

Xin Zhang et al.

Summary: Fucoxanthin (FX), a carotenoid from marine origin, plays an important role in regulating and alleviating type 2 diabetes. In this study, FX was encapsulated in hydrolyzed zein to form a stable nanocomplex (FZNP) which effectively reduced fasting blood glucose levels, repaired hepatocyte and pancreatic beta-cell damage, and regulated glucose metabolism. FZNP exhibited superior effects compared to FX, leading to improved glucose transport and decreased oxidative stress.
