Sensing-transducing coupled piezoelectric textiles for self-powered humidity detection and wearable biomonitoring

Yuanjie Su et al.

Summary: In this study, a strategy combining perception and signal transduction was proposed by embedding high piezoresponse Sm-PMN-PT ceramic into a moisture-sensitive PEI polymer matrix. The composition and topological structure of the sensing-transducing coupled piezoelectric (STP) textiles were designed to modulate the recognition, conversion, and sensitive component utilization ratio of the prepared active humidity sensors, achieving high sensitivity and fast response towards ambient moisture. The prepared STP textile can be worn on the human body for emotion recognition, exercise status monitoring, and physiological stress identification.

MXene-based wireless facemask enabled wearable breath acetone detection for lipid metabolic monitoring

Xin Li et al.

Summary: A wireless facemask based on Ti3C2Tx MXene is developed for the noninvasive monitoring of breath acetone (BrAC) and real-time tracking of lipid metabolism. The facemask can not only detect acetone but also filter out breath interference. It is integrated with a miniaturized flexible detection tag for easy BrAC detection and wireless data transmission. The system enables detection of BrAC down to 0.31 ppm in breath.

Ni-Co-P hollow nanobricks enabled humidity sensor for respiratory analysis and human-machine interfacing

Chunxu Chen et al.

Summary: This work presents a new metal phosphide nanomaterial for energy storage and catalysis, replacing chemical sensors. The material exhibits high sensitivity, low hysteresis, and good repeatability in a wide range of humidity. By adjusting the composition, the humidity sensing performance can be efficiently modulated, showing great potential in respiratory analysis and non-contact human-machine interfacing. This research opens up new possibilities for developing high-performance wearable sensing devices.

Quantum rate efficiency of the charge transfer mediated by quantum capacitive states

Yuliana Perez Sanchez et al.

Summary: It has been demonstrated that quantum capacitance plays a key role in governing the rate efficiency of electron transfer reactions. By utilizing quantum capacitive states, electronic communication can be improved and electrons can hop following a tunnelling mechanism, surpassing the diffusion-controlled transfer of electrons. The concept has potential applications in designing molecular interfaces with high quantum mechanical efficiency.

Humidity-Initiated Gas Sensors for Volatile Organic Compounds Sensing

Maxwell T. Robinson et al.

Summary: The humidity-initiated gas (HIG) sensors employ the impedance of water assembled at sensor interfaces when exposed to humidity to sense VOCs at low concentrations. Type II sensors outperform Type I sensors in terms of key performance metrics, achieving <2 min response times and <10 ppb detection limit for VOCs.
