Summary: This paper proposes a general method to design multi-resonant piezoelectric metamaterials and explains the mechanism of generating multiple bandgaps by analytically studying the effective bending stiffness of the metamaterial plate. The characteristics of these bandgaps are investigated, and the isolation effects of vibration transmission in the metamaterials at multiple line frequencies or within a broad frequency band are numerically verified in frequency domain. Low-frequency vibration insulation performance of the pyramidal lattice sandwich metamaterial beam

Yao Zhang et al.

Summary: A novel pyramidal truss core metamaterial beam with embedded internal mass-spring resonators is designed for superior low-frequency vibration insulation performance. The location and width of the bandgap can be selected by tailoring the properties of the resonators. The pyramidal truss core metamaterial beam with multi-frequency resonators achieves much broader bandgaps than that with only a single array of resonators.

The role of material and geometric nonlinearities and damping effects in designing mechanically tunable acoustic metamaterials

Shaowu Ning et al.

Summary: This study investigates the roles of material and geometric nonlinearities and damping effects in the process of elastic wave manipulation in mechanically tunable acoustic metamaterials (AMs). It was found that geometrical nonlinearity and coating material nonlinearity can manipulate locally resonant and Bragg scattering band gaps, while the matrix material nonlinearity mainly affects the Bragg scattering band gaps. Large holes, thin coating, and large core radius in AM structures enhance their bandgap?s tunability. Furthermore, damping effects alter the position and width of band regions, making it challenging to identify band regions from transmittance spectra.

Summary: Active suspensions have excellent performance in reducing vibrations, but have high power consumption, cost, and potential instability issues. Semi-active suspensions are simple and stable, but do not provide equivalent performance. This new semi-active suspension with negative stiffness component using MR damper provides vibration-reduction performance comparable to active systems, avoiding the disadvantages of active control.

A magnetic field- and frequency-dependent dynamic shear modulus model for isotropic silicone rubber-based magnetorheological elastomers

Yanliang Qiao et al.

Summary: Experimental and modeling studies were conducted on the dynamic shear storage and loss moduli of isotropic magnetorheological elastomers (MREs). A new magneto-induced shear modulus model dependent on CIP content and frequency was proposed, along with a macroscopic magneto-viscoelastic constitutive model to describe the magnetic field- and frequency-dependent shear modulus of the isotropic MREs. The developed model accurately predicted the dynamic shear storage and loss moduli of isotropic MREs with different CIP contents in a wide range of frequency and magnetic flux density using unified model parameters.

Tunable nonlinear band gaps in a sandwich-like meta-plate

Yu Xue et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the working mechanism of sandwich-like meta-plates by periodically attaching nonlinear mass-beam-spring resonators for low-frequency wave attenuation. Results show that the band-gap range of the meta-plate can be tunable by designing the structural parameters of the MBS resonator, thereby widening the wave attenuation range. The nonlinearity of the resonators can effectively suppress vibrations and expand the wave attenuation capabilities of the meta-plate.

Magnetorheological Elastomer Based Flexible Metamaterials Coupler for Broadband Longitudinal Vibration Isolation: Modeling and Experimental Verification

Ayman M. H. Salem et al.

Summary: This study investigates the use of MRE-based metamaterial couplers for broadband vibration attenuation, achieving maximum reduction curves of approximately 84.5%, 97%, and 99.6% with single, double, and triple-layer MREs, respectively. The stiffness of MRE layers increases with the strength of the applied magnetic field, enhancing their ability to isolate longitudinal vibration at different frequency bands. The findings demonstrate that the proposed MRE-based metamaterial couplers can attenuate vibrations at broadband frequencies.
