Relationship between physical activity and coping with stress in people with multiple sclerosis: A moderated mediation model with self-efficacy and disability level as variables

Social cognitive theory variables are stronger correlates of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity than light physical activity in older adults with multiple sclerosis

Summary: Through analyzing variables from social cognitive theory, this study found correlations between self-efficacy, exercise goal setting, social support, outcome expectations, and both light and moderate-to-vigorous physical activity in older adults with multiple sclerosis (MS). The results suggest that behavior change interventions informed by social cognitive theory may be effective in increasing physical activity levels, particularly moderate-to-vigorous activity, in older adults with MS.

The perceived impact of multiple sclerosis and self-management: The mediating role of coping strategies

Summary: The study found that emotion- and problem-focused coping strategies mediate the relationship between perceived impact of MS and self-management in MS patients. Emotion-focused coping was negatively correlated with self-management, while problem-focused coping was positively correlated with self-management. Therefore, reducing emotional coping and increasing problem-solving coping strategies may help improve self-management in MS patients.
