Enhanced Zika virus-like particle development using Baculovirus spp. constructs

Alexander Malogolovkin et al.

Summary: Researchers constructed and characterized Zika virus-like particles (Zika VLPs) to study the interaction between ZIKV and antibodies. These VLPs showed typical virus morphology and the importance of glycosylation of the E glycoprotein was demonstrated. A new construct showed higher efficacy and protein concentration, making it a potential candidate for vaccine trials.

Sterile 20-like kinase 3 promotes tick-borne encephalitis virus assembly by interacting with NS2A and prM and enhancing the NS2A-NS4A association

Jielin Tang et al.

Summary: This study reveals that mammalian ste20-like kinase 3 (MST3) is involved in the regulation of tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV) infection. Knockdown or knockout of MST3 inhibits TBEV replication, while other mammalian ste20-like kinase family members do not have this effect. MST3 interacts with the viral proteins NS2A and prM, enhancing the interaction of NS2A-NS4A and mediating virion assembly.

Co-Immunization With CHIKV VLP and DNA Vaccines Induces a Promising Humoral Response in Mice

Zhimin Zhao et al.

Summary: The study found that co-immunization with DNA and VLP induced the highest levels of antigen-specific IgG and neutralizing activity, while DNA vaccination alone induced the strongest cellular immunity. All vaccine groups were able to protect mice from lethal CHIKV challenge, but mice co-immunized with DNA and VLP exhibited the best protective effects, with the mildest histopathological changes and lowest scores.

Recovery of a Far-Eastern Strain of Tick-Borne Encephalitis Virus with a Full-Length Infectious cDNA Clone

Penghui Li et al.

Summary: Tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV), a pathogenic virus causing CNS diseases in humans, is increasingly becoming a public health threat. An infectious cDNA clone of TBEV has been successfully constructed in China, utilizing a beta-globin intron to improve genome stability and efficiently producing infectious progeny viruses in mammalian cells. This clone can be used to study genetic determinants of TBEV virulence and pathogenesis, as well as develop countermeasures against the virus.
