Aqueous seeded RAFT polymerization for the preparation of self-assemblies containing nucleobase analogues

Miriam Abad et al.

Summary: Self-assemblies containing the nucleobase analogue 2,6-diacylaminopyridine were prepared by aqueous seeded RAFT polymerization for the first time, with a phase diagram generated from the systematic variation of polymerization degree and solid concentration. Various morphologies of self-assemblies were observed and shown to be stable for almost a year, with successful loading and release of Nile Red demonstrated in both supramolecular cross-linked and non-cross-linked systems.

Calixarene Functionalized Supramolecular Liquid Crystals and Their Diverse Applications

Vinay S. Sharma et al.

Summary: Liquid crystals, characterized by intermediate order and fluidity between solids and liquids, have drawn significant attention in the field of supramolecular chemistry. Among the versatile building blocks, calixarenes stand out due to their unique structure and diverse applications. Introducing liquid crystallinity to calixarene framework enables the synthesis of functionalized derivatives with fluidity and order, enhancing charge migration. This review provides a comprehensive account of the synthesis, behavior, and potential applications of calixarene-based liquid crystals.

Reversible On/Off Chiral Amplification of Pillar[5]arene Assemblies by Dual External Stimuli

Shixin Fa et al.

Summary: The study presents chiral assemblies with dual-stimuli responsiveness, consisting of planar-chiral pillar[5]arenes with azobenzene groups that undergo chiral amplification and collapse under thermo- and photostimuli control. The alignment of azobenzenes in the assemblies leads to chiral propagation and amplification, which can be switched on and off through trans to cis photoisomerization and cis to trans thermo-isomerization of the azobenzene groups.
