Identification of PAL genes related to anthocyanin synthesis in tea plants and its correlation with anthocyanin content

Shan Jin et al.

Summary: This study characterized the PAL gene family in tea plants and investigated the role of CsPALs in anthocyanins accumulation. The analysis identified seven CsPAL genes and revealed that CsPAL4 plays a key role in the accumulation of different anthocyanins.

Ambient Ultraviolet B Signal Modulates Tea Flavor Characteristics via Shifting a Metabolic Flux in Flavonoid Biosynthesis

Ning Lin et al.

Summary: The study found that ambient UV-B regulates the metabolic flux in flavonoid biosynthesis in tea leaves, affecting tea quality. Absence of UV-B decreased some bitter- and astringent-tasting flavonol glycosides in tea leaves but increased non-galloylated catechins, while supplementary UV-B increased flavonols and decreased catechins.UV-B-induced tea flavonoid regulation is responsive to multiple biotic and abiotic environmental stresses, providing new insights into tea cultivation management and processing.

CsbZIP1-CsMYB12 mediates the production of bitter-tasting flavonols in tea plants (Camellia sinensis) through a coordinated activator-repressor network

Xuecheng Zhao et al.

Summary: Flavonol biosynthesis in tea leaves is regulated by UV activation and shading repression through a complex network involving CsbZIP1 and CsPIF3 as positive MYB activators and negative MYB repressors, respectively. CsMYB12 plays a crucial role in this regulation by activating the expression of CsFLS and CsUGT78A14. Additionally, CsMYB4 and CsMYB7 act as MYB repressors to inhibit CsMYB12-activated expression and repress flavonol biosynthesis.

Comprehensive genomic analysis and expression profiling of cysteine-rich polycomb-like transcription factor gene family in tea tree

Hong Nan et al.

Summary: The cysteine-rich polycomb-like (CPP) gene family is crucial for plant development and stress response. In this study, 7, 8, and 8 non-redundant CsCPP genes were identified in three published genomes of Camellia sinensis. Phylogenetic analysis classified CPP proteins into three groups with four subgroups, showing similar gene structures and conserved motifs within the same subgroup. The expression patterns of CPP genes across different tissues varied, indicating their involvement in a range of developmental and physiological processes in tea plants.
