Synthesis of bentonite/Ag nanocomposite by laser ablation in air and its application in remediation

Babak Jaleh et al.

Summary: A simple, green, and efficient approach is presented to produce a novel bentonite/Ag nanocomposite, in which Ag nanoparticles are prepared using the laser ablation method and deposited on bentonite via magnetic stirring. The structural and morphological characterization of the obtained nanocomposite (B/Ag30) is conducted, and it exhibits excellent catalytic reduction/degradation activity for common aqueous pollutants. The recycling tests demonstrate the high stability/reusability of B/Ag30 nanocomposite for at least 4 runs with retention of catalytic prowess.

Calf thymus ds-DNA intercalation with pendimethalin herbicide at the surface of ZIF-8/Co/rGO/C3N4/ds-DNA/SPCE; A bio-sensing approach for pendimethalin quantification confirmed by molecular docking study

Hassan Karimi-Maleh et al.

Summary: In this study, a highly sensitive DNA biosensor based on ZIF-8/Co/rGO/C3N4 nanohybrid modification of a screen-printed carbon electrode (SPCE) was fabricated to monitor the herbicide PND in real samples. The biosensor successfully quantified PND in a wide concentration range and showed a low detection limit. Molecular docking analysis confirmed the experimental findings and provided important insights for the development of highly sensitive DNA biosensors for monitoring toxic herbicides.

Roles of reactive oxygen species in antibiotic resistant bacteria inactivation and micropollutant degradation in Fenton and photo-Fenton processes

Yunus Ahmed et al.

Summary: This study investigates the roles of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the simultaneous removal of antibiotic resistant bacteria (ARB) and recalcitrant micropollutants using three processes: conventional Fenton, photo-Fenton, and EDDS modified photo-Fenton. Various ROS were generated and confirmed to contribute to bacterial inactivation and micropollutant degradation. The results showed that the EDDS modified photo-Fenton process had the highest removal efficiency. The hydroxyl radical played a dominant role, while singlet oxygen and superoxide radical anion exhibited moderate effects in removing hazards.
