Reliability assessment of connections with slip-critical bolts and fillet welds in combination

Omid Khandel et al.

Summary: This paper quantifies the reliability level of connections combining slip-critical bolts and longitudinal fillet welds using a probabilistic approach. The sensitivity analysis results indicate that variability in weld geometry, bolt pretensioning forces, and friction coefficient of steel surface significantly contribute to the load-carrying capacity of the connections. The reliability of the combination connections with different faying surface conditions is evaluated based on code provisions.

Structural Reliability Assessment of Steel Four-Bolt Unstiffened Extended End-Plate Connections Using Monte Carlo Simulation and Artificial Neural Networks

Hamidreza Abbasianjahromi et al.

Summary: The study focuses on analyzing the structural reliability of steel four-bolt unstiffened extended end-plate connections using integrated artificial neural network and Monte Carlo simulation approaches. The ANN-based MCS approach shows higher efficiency in estimating the implicit limit state function for connection reliability evaluation. The finite element modeling provides the necessary data for ANN training and the MCS method is used to assess the connection reliability after achieving the LSF.

A Systematic Review of Structural Reliability Methods for Deformation and Fatigue Analysis of Offshore Jacket Structures

Abdulhakim Adeoye Shittu et al.

Summary: This paper discusses the probabilistic fracture mechanics approach as it accurately represents the fatigue reliability encountered in the design of current structures. Analytical/approximate methods like FORM/SORM strike a good balance between accuracy and efficiency, but they may be inaccurate for highly non-linear systems, so various modifications have been proposed for enhanced accuracy.
