Poly(thiophene iminoborane): A Poly(thiophene vinylene) (PTV) Analogue with a Fully B(sic)N-Doped Backbone

Johannes Chorbacher et al.

Summary: This article presents an unprecedented polymer (poly(thiophene iminoborane)) which is a boron-nitrogen analogue of the well-established conjugated organic polymer poly(thiophene vinylene). The polymer is synthesized through a selective Si/B exchange polycondensation reaction using a 2,5-diborylthiophene and a 2,5-diaminothiophene derivative. A facile synthetic strategy is devised for the latter, making it easily accessible. The novel polymer and a series of monodisperse thiophene iminoborane oligomers show systematic bathochromic shifts in their absorption spectra with increasing chain length, indicating extended π-conjugation over the B-N units along the backbone, which is further supported by TD-DFT calculations.

Diradical B/N-Doped Polycyclic Hydrocarbons

Jiaxiang Guo et al.

Summary: We report the synthesis of B/N-type organic diradicaloids with atom-precise control over open-shell nature through quinoidal pi-extension of a B/N-heterocycle. These diradicaloids exhibit modulated (anti)aromaticity and enhanced diradical characters compared with all-carbon analogues, and display intriguing properties such as magnetic activities and highly red-shifted absorptions.

BN-Anthracene for High-Mobility Organic Optoelectronic Materials through Periphery Engineering

Wanhui Li et al.

Summary: We have successfully developed high-mobility organic semiconductors based on BN-PAHs through the periphery engineering strategy. One particular BN-PAH, DPBNA, showed remarkable performance in organic field-effect transistors with a hole mobility of 1.3 cm(2) V-1 s(-1), surpassing TPBNA and all previously reported BN-PAHs. Remarkably, this is the first BN-PAH with a mobility exceeding 1 cm(2) V(-1) s(-1), making it a benchmark for practical applications comparable to amorphous silicon. Additionally, high-performance phototransistors based on DPBNA were demonstrated, indicating the high potential of BN-PAHs for optoelectronic applications when the periphery engineering strategy is implemented.

Jonas Dorr et al.

Summary: Ferrocenes with pyrazabole bridges are chemically robust entities, suitable for synthesizing rigid-rod polymers with redox-active Fe(II) centers and beltene-like n-faces. Oligomers with a number-average molecular weight of Mn = 7.6 kDa and dispersity of = 1.55 were successfully obtained by condensation reaction and Sonogashira-Hagihara-type protocol, indicating an average chain length of about 14 repeating units.

Periphery-Core Strategy to Access a Bowl-Shaped Molecule Bearing Multiple Heteroatoms

Jianrong Wu et al.

Summary: A bowl-shaped compound containing multiple heteroatoms was synthesized through a periphery-core strategy, with a low ratio of carbon atom to heteroatom. Crystallographic analysis confirmed the formation of the bowl-shaped structure, and the presence of heteroatoms resulted in distinct aromaticity compared to its all-carbon congener. The electron-rich buckybowl showed a strong interaction with the electron-deficient fullerene C-60.
