Vibration suppression and energy absorption of plates in subsonic airflow using an energy harvester enhanced nonlinear energy sink

Guo Yao et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the use of a nonlinear energy sink and a giant magnetostrictive-piezoelectric energy harvester to suppress the nonlinear aeroelastic responses of an embedded plate and absorb mechanical energy from external subsonic airflow. The analytical model of the plate with the energy harvester is established and the natural frequencies are analyzed. The results show the vibration suppression effects of the proposed method and study the energy transfer mechanisms.

Energy harvesting using a magnetostrictive transducer based on switching control

An Li et al.

Summary: In this work, a switching control energy harvesting method using magnetostrictive materials is proposed, which enables large-scale kinetic to electrical energy conversion. The method combines a magnetostrictive material, an electric circuit, and an electronic switch. Numerical simulations were conducted to optimize the parameters, and experimental measurements validated the harvesting performance using a 3.75 m vibrated cantilever truss structure. The proposed method achieved an electrical energy of approximately 45μJ in 20.0 s, which is seven times more than that of the conventional passive method.

Summary: This study proposes a method of controlling vibration and harvesting energy for whole spacecraft by designing a device that integrates a lever-type nonlinear energy sink (LNES) and giant magnetostrictive material (GMM). The experimental results confirm that the device can effectively control vibration and harvest energy under different working conditions, and appropriate parameter selection can enhance its performance.

A programmable macro-fiber-composite meta-ring with digital shunting circuits

Yisheng Zheng et al.

Summary: In this research, a piezoelectric meta-ring shunted with digital high-order resonant circuits is proposed, demonstrating high adaptiveness in bandgap behavior. The analytical dispersion relation of meta-ring cells is achieved, and finite-element simulations are performed to verify the analytical model. The impacts of electrical parameters on bandgap performance are investigated, and the stability of inverse-designed digital circuits is examined.

Passive control of multiple structural resonances with piezoelectric vibration absorbers

G. Raze et al.

Summary: A novel sequential tuning procedure for passive piezoelectric shunts targeting multiple structural modes is proposed in this work. The control authority on each targeted mode is limited by passivity requirements, highlighting the fundamental limitations of multimodal piezoelectric shunts. The characteristics of the shunt impedance are fully specified based on effective characteristics of the piezoelectric system around resonance, with numerical verification and experimental validation conducted on piezoelectric beams using a digital vibration absorber.
