Determination of the 8B neutrino energy spectrum using trapped ions

B. Longfellow et al.

Summary: In this study, the 0+ decay of 8B was measured using a 0-decay Paul trap and double-sided silicon strip detectors. The results provided valuable information for determining the 8Be final-state distribution and reconstructing the neutrino energy spectrum. This measurement using trapped ions is the first of its kind and improves the accuracy of the neutrino energy spectrum.

Ab initio calculation of the β-decay spectrum of 6He

G. B. King et al.

Summary: We calculate the beta spectrum in the decay of He-6 using quantum Monte Carlo methods with nuclear interactions derived from chiral effective field theory and consistent weak vector and axial currents. The theoretical uncertainty on the beta spectrum is well below the permille level, and receives contributions of comparable size from first-and second-order corrections in the multipole expansion. Corrections to the beta decay spectrum induced by beyond-standard-model charged-current interactions in the standard model effective field theory are considered, and the sensitivity of the next generation of experiments to these interactions is discussed.

Improved Limit on Tensor Currents in the Weak Interaction from 8Li β Decay

M. T. Burkey et al.

Summary: We present the most precise measurement of tensor currents in the low-energy regime by examining the beta-(nu) over bar correlation of trapped Li-8 ions with the Beta-decay Paul Trap. The measured result is consistent with the standard model prediction.

Semileptonic tau decays beyond the Standard Model

Vincenzo Cirigliano et al.

Summary: Hadronic tau decays are studied to investigate new physics, analyzing the relationship between Tau observables and Wilson coefficients in the low-energy effective theory. The analysis suggests the presence of Cabibbo anomaly in the combined dataset of new physics hints, which can be combined with inputs from other low-energy precision observables.

β-Nuclear-Recoil Correlation from 6He Decay in a Laser Trap

P. Muller et al.

Summary: This article presents the first precise measurement of a beta-recoil correlation from a radioactive noble gas (He-6) confined via a magneto-optical trap. The measurement aims to search for exotic tensor-type contributions to the charged weak current and provides constraints on these contributions. The sensitivity of the measurement is mainly limited by experimental uncertainties in determining the time response properties and the distance between the atom cloud and the microchannel plate used for recoil ion detection.

Nuclear ab initio calculations of 6He β-decay for beyond the Standard Model studies

Ayala Glick-Magid et al.

Summary: Precision measurements of beta-decay observables provide a way to search for deviations from the Standard Model, which requires accompanying first-principles calculations. In this study, nuclear structure corrections for the beta-decay of He-6 are computed using the impulse approximation and wave functions calculated with the ab initio no-core shell model. The results present a novel and comprehensive analysis of theoretical uncertainties, showing that the computed nuclear corrections significantly deviate from the naive Gamow-Teller predictions within the sensitivity of future experiments, emphasizing the importance of accurate assessment in the search for physics beyond the Standard Model.

The TAMUTRAP facility: A Penning trap facility at Texas A&M University for weak interaction studies

P. D. Shidling et al.

Summary: The TAMUTRAP facility aims to test the standard model of the electroweak interaction by measuring beta v correlation parameters for beta-delayed proton emitters. It utilizes a unique Penning trap design to manipulate trapped-ion motions and perform precision mass measurements. This facility has demonstrated the ability to measure masses with precision similar to typical trap designs.

Origin of the heaviest elements: The rapid neutron-capture process

John J. Cowan et al.

Summary: The rapid neutron-capture process (r-process) is responsible for about half of the heavy elements found in nature, but uncertainties and open questions remain. Studies suggest that the production of the majority of heavy r-process elements may be associated with neutron-rich conditions, such as neutron star mergers.

Comprehensive analysis of beta decays within and beyond the Standard Model

Adam Falkowski et al.

Summary: This paper reviews and analyzes precision measurements in allowed nuclear beta decays and neutron decay, confirming the V-A character of the interaction and updating the values for V-ud and g(A) at the 10^(-4) level. By incorporating data from mirror beta transitions in new global fits, the study also places new stringent limits on exotic couplings involving left-handed and right-handed neutrinos.
