Experimental study of an amphiphilic graphene oxide based nanofluid for chemical enhanced oil recovery of heavy oil

Yigang Liu et al.

Summary: By conducting experiments, a highly active nanofluid was developed using graphene oxide covalently combined with polyethylene glycol brush (GOC) as the raw material. The ability of the nanofluid to reduce interfacial tension is evaluated, the mechanism of fluidity control is clarified, and the mesoscopic oil displacement efficiency is quantified. The highly active nanofluid shows good in situ mobility control performance and significantly improves oil recovery by more than 25%.

Summary: This research focuses on improving the dispersion of graphene oxide (GO) to prepare a highly anisotropic GO material (GOC) that can disperse well in various organic solvents and maintain high dispersion stability in strong brine. The GOC can significantly reduce surface tension, generate water-in-oil Pickering emulsions with high water content, and exhibit liquid crystal behavior at the oil-water interface without external stimuli.

Synergetic effect between in-situ mobility control and micro-displacement for chemical enhanced oil recovery (CEOR) of a surface-active nanofluid

Rui Liu et al.

Summary: The study tested an environmentally friendly and high-cost effective chemical enhanced oil recovery (CEOR) technique, which showed promising results in in-situ mobility control and micro-displacement. The surface-active nanofluid created induced Pickering emulsions with in-situ mobility control and altered rock wettability, significantly improving oil recovery under heterogeneous conditions. The CEOR potential of this nanofluid is comparable to conventional methods, with the added advantage of being easily prepared and injected with low-energy cost using existing oilfield injection systems.

Visualizing and Quantifying Wettability Alteration by Silica Nanofluids

Shidong Li et al.

Summary: Silica nanoparticles or nanofluids can alter the wettability of surfaces, making them hydrophilic and oil-repellent under water. The adsorption of nanoparticles onto surfaces forms a porous layer that reduces contact between oil droplets and solid substrates, thereby significantly lowering the adhesion force.Experimental findings suggest that even a small addition of nanoparticles can improve oil recovery rates in micro-models with glass channels resembling physical rock networks.
