Salivary levels of five microorganisms of root caries in nursing home elderly: a preliminary investigation

Lin Chen et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the presence and abundance of Streptococcus mutans, Streptococcus sobrinus, Bifidobacterium spp., Lactobacillus spp., and Actinomyces naeslundii in the saliva of elderly people in nursing homes. The results showed that S. mutans, S. sobrinus, and Bifidobacterium spp. in saliva were significantly associated with root caries in the elderly.

Streptococcus mutans Gene Expression and Functional Profile in Root Caries: An RNA-Seq Study

Heitor Sales de Barros Santos et al.

Summary: This study investigated the gene expression and functional profile of Streptococcus mutans in biofilms from sound root surfaces (SRS) and carious root surfaces (RC). The results showed that there were differentially expressed genes between SRS and RC, with a greater functional abundance of S. mutans in the carious lesion samples. Functional patterns related to sugar metabolism, cell-wall biosynthesis, and acid tolerance stress were enriched on carious root surfaces.

Transcriptional Profiling Reveals Adaptive Response and Tolerance to Lactic Acid Stress in Pichia kudriavzevii

Hai Du et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the tolerance and gene response of Pichia kudriavzevii under lactic acid stress. It was found that P. kudriavzevii C-16 showed higher biomass yields and lactic acid consumption rates compared to its type strain under lactic acid stress. mRNA sequencing revealed significant upregulation and downregulation of genes in P. kudriavzevii C-16 under lactic acid stress, with differential expression observed in genes related to pyruvate metabolic pathway, ABC transporter proteins, glutamate metabolic pathway, and the biosynthetic pathway of leucine and valine. Additionally, P. kudriavzevii C-16 produced significantly higher concentrations of isobutyl alcohol and isoamyl alcohol under lactic acid stress.
