Synthesis, biological and catalytic activity of silver nanoparticles generated and covered by oxidized pullulan

Marieta Constantin et al.

Summary: A simple and eco-friendly method for the synthesis of silver nanoparticles using oxidized polysaccharides as reducing and capping agents was reported. The nanoparticles exhibited small size and round shape after optimizing the synthesis parameters. Characterization techniques confirmed the stability of the nanoparticles and their antibacterial activity, as well as their efficient photocatalytic degradation of water-soluble pollutants.

Fabrication and characterization of pullulan-based composite films incorporated with bacterial cellulose and ferulic acid

Zemin Ding et al.

Summary: Pullulan-based composite films incorporated with bacterial cellulose and ferulic acid were prepared and their properties were investigated. The results showed that the incorporation of bacterial cellulose and ferulic acid improved the mechanical, barrier, and antioxidant properties of the films, making them potential bioactive packaging materials.

Bioprocess Development for 2,3-Butanediol Production by Paenibacillus Strains

Daniel Tinoco et al.

Summary: This review focused on the fermentation potential of Paenibacillus species in the production of 2,3-butanediol, highlighting key fermentation parameters, metabolic pathways, and available carbon sources. The discussion also included downstream separation and purification processes for bio-based 2,3-BDO recovery, as well as the potential for high stereoisomeric purity isomers to open up new applications and markets. Paenibacillus strains were proposed as a viable alternative to biosafety level 2 strains for 2,3-BDO production.
