Supramolecular Organic Frameworks: Exploring Water-Soluble, Regular Nanopores for Biomedical Applications

Zhan-Ting Li et al.

Summary: Regular porous architectures have been widely studied for their versatile functions and applications in adsorption. However, most reported architectures exist only in the solid state, posing challenges for their biomedical applications. This Account presents the development and biomedical applications of water-soluble 3D diamondoid supramolecular organic frameworks (dSOFs) as a solution to this problem. dSOFs exhibit regular nanoscale porosity in aqueous solution and can quickly include various guests, showing potential for biomedical applications.

A photo- and redox actives mesoporous 3D covalent organic framework enables highly efficient metal-free photoredox catalysis

Jinyu Chao et al.

Summary: Visible-light photoredox catalysis is an efficient method for chemical synthesis. However, the use of soluble noble-metal catalysts in this process has limitations such as long-term supply issues and environmental concerns. Therefore, the development of recyclable metal-free photoredox catalysts is highly significant. In this study, a mesoporous 3D COF material (3D TAPPy-TFPA) with photo- and redox-activatable properties was synthesized, showing excellent catalytic performance in visible-light induced reactions. The 3D COF exhibited high crystallinity, mesoporous channels, and structural stability, making it a promising candidate for photoredox catalysis.
