Summary: This study examines the relative sea-level fluctuations during the Early Cretaceous period in the western Tethys. The findings show that the sea level had significant variations of up to 115 meters during this time. The driving processes behind these fluctuations remain unknown.

Non-rudist infralittoral bivalves from the Urgonian-type carbonate platforms of southeast France and the neighbouring regions: biodiversity, palaeoecological significance and relationships with rudists

Jean-Pierre Masse et al.

Summary: This study provides new insights on the taxonomic composition, diversity, and ecological aspects of non-rudist bivalves in the poorly explored Barremian carbonate platforms of southeast France. The diversity of non-rudist bivalves is higher than that of rudists, with Pectinida and Mytilida being the dominant orders. Non-rudist bivalves form different assemblages in different facies types.

Revised biostratigraphy and regional correlations of the Urgonian southern Vercors carbonate platform, southeast France

Camille Frau et al.

Summary: The Subalpine Urgonian platform offers seismic-scale outcrops for studying the depositional organization of Lower Cretaceous carbonate systems. By revising biostratigraphy and establishing regional stratigraphic correlations, a new understanding of the Urgonian platform architecture in southern Vercors has been gained, conflicting with previous conceptual models and suggesting the Glandasse and Urgonian limestones formations should be considered stratigraphic equivalents. Further investigations are needed to better understand the regional scale stratigraphic evolution of the Urgonian system.
