Supplementation with rac-GR24 Facilitates the Accumulation of Biomass and Astaxanthin in Two Successive Stages of Haematococcus pluvialis Cultivation

Xiang Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, it was discovered that treatment of Haematococcus pluvialis cultures with rac-GR24 resulted in increased biomass and astaxanthin production. This enhancement was achieved by improving CO2 utilization efficiency, stimulating the production of NADPH and antioxidant enzymes, and altering the activity of fatty acid biosynthesis and astaxanthin esterification pathways. The findings provide new insights into the mechanistic roles of rac-GR24 and offer a feasible and economic strategy for increasing the amounts of biomass and astaxanthin generated by H. pluvialis cultures.
