Assessment of the impact of diluted and pretreated olive mill wastewater on the treatment efficiency by infiltration-percolation using natural bio-adsorbents

Soufiane Bakri Alaoui et al.

Summary: The current study aimed to treat olive mill wastewater (OMW) using a low-cost natural adsorbent in an infiltration percolation process. The results showed that diluting the OMW with domestic wastewater was the most effective, while lime pretreatment had the lowest removal rate for all parameters.

Modeling and optimization of Acid Orange 7 adsorption process using magnetite/carbon nanocomposite

Maria-Andreea Nistor et al.

Summary: The efficiency of a new magnetite/carbon nanocomposite (MCN) as an adsorbent for removing Acid orange 7 (AO7) dye from aqueous solutions was investigated. The study found that MCN had high removal rates under certain conditions. The adsorption isotherms study showed that the Sips model had the best fit with the experimental data, indicating that MCN had a large adsorption capacity. The results demonstrated that MCN is a promising adsorbent, and response surface optimization could be used to optimize the adsorption process parameters.

Adsorption-desorption of phenolic compounds from olive mill wastewater using a novel low-cost biosorbent

Lygeri Papaoikonomou et al.

Summary: This study investigated the adsorption of phenolic compounds in olive mill wastewater using pomegranate seed as an adsorbent. The experimental results showed that pomegranate seed exhibited promising adsorption performance and could be a novel and low-cost biosorbent option for phenols removal.

Olive Mill Wastewater (OMW) Polyphenols Adsorption onto Polymeric Resins: Part I-Batch Anaerobic Digestion of OMW

Aikaterini Ioannis Vavouraki et al.

Summary: Adsorption experiments were conducted using different adsorbent resins for phenol removal, with FPX 66 showing the highest efficiency. In treating olive mill wastewater, 20% FPX 66 was able to reduce soluble phenolic content by 75%. Anaerobic digestion of resin-pretreated OMW resulted in increased methane production compared to raw OMW, indicating the inhibitory effect of polyphenols on OMW fermentation and methane production.

Summary: This study evaluated the adsorption of eriochrome black T by chitosan extracted from local shrimp shells, finding a strong adsorption capacity in acidic medium, fitting well with the pseudo-secondorder kinetic model, and indicating monolayer adsorption of EB molecules according to the Langmuir model. Calculated quantum chemical parameters and molecular dynamics approach supported the experimental results obtained.

Abeer El Shahawy et al.

Summary: In this study, electrocoagulation was explored as an alternative method for treating Olive Mill Wastewater. Through Central Composite Experimental Design and Response Surface Methodology, the optimal conditions for COD removal were identified as current density of 15 mA/cm(2), pH of 4, and electrolysis time of 30 minutes. Under these conditions, the maximum COD removal ratio was 41% with an Al weight loss of 288.89 g/m(3).
