The relationship between the Dark Triad and attitudes towards feminism

Melanie D. Douglass et al.

Summary: The Dark Triad traits, which are considered to be a male-centric framework of personality, are associated with higher scores in men compared to women. However, there are no differences between men and women when it comes to feminist attitudes. The study also found a negative association between the Dark Triad traits and feminist attitudes, which is more pronounced in men.

The dark triad, empathy, and motives to use social media

Anita Sparavec et al.

Summary: This exploratory study examined the relationships between personality traits (Dark Triad: narcissism, Machiavellianism, psychopathy) and empathy (cognitive and affective) with motivations for antisocial and prosocial online behavior. The findings revealed that women with high levels of psychopathy were more likely to engage in antisocial behavior on social media. Both men and women with high levels of narcissism were more motivated to behave both antisocially and prosocially online. Interestingly, for women, higher levels of affective empathy and lower levels of cognitive empathy predicted higher motivations for prosocial behavior. These results contribute to our understanding of individual differences in motivations for online behavior.

I don't feel ya: How narcissism shapes empathy

Pascal Burgmer et al.

Summary: Individuals with a tendency towards self-absorption are less likely to feel empathy towards others. Research suggests that the empathy deficit among narcissists is mainly driven by the antagonistic dimension of narcissism, but can be attenuated by experiences of trust. Despite the unfortunate empathy deficit among narcissists, it is not permanent and can be partially alleviated by focusing less on the self.
