Remodeling Effects of the Combination of GGT Scaffolds, Percutaneous Electrical Stimulation, and Acupuncture on Large Bone Defects in Rats

Chun-Hsu Yao et al.

Summary: This study investigated the dual effects of combining a tricalcium phosphate-based gelatin scaffold with electroacupuncture stimulation on the activation of osteoclasts and osteoblasts, as well as new bone regrowth. By changing the pH of the culture medium, electrical stimulation was found to activate osteoblasts and osteoclasts in an in vitro co-culture system. Furthermore, electroacupuncture stimulation was shown to enhance osteogenesis and new bone regrowth in vivo.

Summary: The combination of CO(3)Ap and AB has been demonstrated as a clinically effective bone substitute. While Mix did not increase the number of osteoclasts or osteoblasts in vitro, it significantly increased the rate of bone replacement in dome-shaped areas in vivo.

Appropriate pore size for bone formation potential of porous collagen type I-based recombinant peptide

Shoji Yamahara et al.

Summary: In this study, porous medium cross-linked recombinant collagen peptide (mRCP) with different pore sizes were developed and compared for bone regeneration in calvarial bone defects. The results show that the smaller pore size range of 100-300 mm is more suitable for mRCP in bone regeneration.

An exploratory clinical trial to evaluate the safety and efficacy of combination therapy of REGROTH® and Cytrans® granules for severe periodontitis with intrabony defects

Masahiro Kitamura et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the safety and effectiveness of combined therapy using REGROTH (R) and Cytrans (R) granules for periodontal regenerative therapy in patients with severe periodontitis. Results showed a significant increase in new alveolar bone and clinical attachment level, as well as a decrease in probing pocket depth and bleeding on probing at 36 weeks after treatment. The study also found a reduction in tooth mobility, gingival index, and plaque index after surgery.

Collagen-Based Biomaterials in Periodontal Regeneration: Current Applications and Future Perspectives of Plant-Based Collagen

Thunwa Binlateh et al.

Summary: This review focuses on the applications of collagen-based biomaterials in periodontal regeneration. Collagen can be derived from various sources, including animal, marine, and plant extracts, as well as recombinant human type I collagen. Animal-derived collagen has limitations due to concerns such as contamination and immunogenicity, while recombinant human type I collagen offers a potential solution. The review provides an overview of current applications and future perspectives of collagen-based biomaterials in periodontal regeneration.

Summary: The study demonstrates that the 75/25 w/w nHAp/CS scaffolds effectively promote new bone formation, as shown by increased fraction of bone regeneration, total number of osteocytes, and osteocyte cell density in the experimental group compared to the control group. Additionally, the biodegradability of the scaffolds was observed to decrease over time.
