Infrared spectroscopy combined with chemometrics as a convenient method to detect adulterations in cooking/stretching process in commercial cheese

Mustafa Ozturk et al.

Summary: In this study, near-infrared (NIR) and mid-infrared (MIR) spectroscopy were used for the fast identification of two types of cheese. The MIR-ATR technique showed superior separation with greater inter-class distance. Information theory determined that only a few variables were needed for MIR and NIR spectral data classification, and quadratic discriminant and support vector machine achieved 100% accuracy for class prediction.

Detection and visualization of soybean protein powder in ground beef using visible and near-infrared hyperspectral imaging

Hongzhe Jiang et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a method for quantitative determination and rapid visualization of soybean protein powder (SPP) addition in ground beef using hyperspectral imaging (HSI). The method combines principal component analysis (PCA), gray level co-occurrence matrix (GLCM) algorithm, and partial least squares regression (PLSR) to establish quantitative models and create spatial distribution maps for observing adulteration levels.

Discrimination of raw and sulfur-fumigated ginseng based on Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy coupled with chemometrics

Ping Li et al.

Summary: In this study, a rapid and efficient method using FT-IR spectroscopy and multivariate statistical analysis was developed for discriminating nonfumigated and sulfur-fumigated ginseng. The results demonstrated the feasibility of using FT-IR spectroscopy for detecting sulfur fumigation in ginseng. After sulfur fumigation, significant changes in peak areas in both fingerprint and functional group areas were observed. The back propagation artificial neural network (BP-ANN) evaluation model showed the highest parameters and accuracy. The study highlights the potential of FT-IR spectroscopy combined with multivariate statistical analysis in rapidly discriminating between nonfumigated and sulfur-fumigated ginseng, providing valuable reference for the quality and effectiveness of ginseng in edible and medicinal applications.
