Adsorption of methyl violet dye from wastewater using poly(methacrylic acid-co-acrylamide)/bentonite nanocomposite hydrogels

Hamid Safarzadeh et al.

Summary: This study investigated the use of nanocomposite hydrogels containing bentonite clay nanoparticles for the removal of methyl violet dye. The results showed that the nanoparticles were successfully distributed in the hydrogel system, and a 10 wt. % concentration of bentonite nanoparticles achieved the highest dye adsorption efficiency. The thermodynamics studies indicated that the adsorption process was spontaneous, and the adsorption process was exothermic using both types of adsorbents. The Langmuir isotherm model was successfully used to describe the equilibrium behavior, and the pseudo-second-order model provided the best description of the kinetic behavior.
