Accuracy of intraoperative navigation for orbital fracture repair: A retrospective morphometric analysis

Elisa Raveggi et al.

Summary: In this retrospective case series, morphometric analysis was conducted on patients undergoing surgery for isolated orbital floor fractures. The accuracy of mesh positioning was assessed using a virtual plan and the distance-to-nearest-neighbor method. The study found that virtual surgical planning and intraoperative navigation have the potential to improve the quality of orbital floor repair.

Tendinous annulus of Zinn for a common origin of the extraocular rectus muscles: a histological study of the orbital apex from donated elderly cadavers

Chiemi Kanehira et al.

Summary: The rectus muscles and other muscles of the eye originate from the tendinous annulus of Zinn. However, this annulus is only connected to the four rectus muscles and does not include the levator palpebrae superioris and superior oblique muscle. These two muscles originate from the optic canal opening. Additionally, there is a common tendon at the posterior side of the annulus that connects the medial, inferior, and lateral rectus muscles.

Topographical anatomy of the annulus of Zinn

Hester Lacey et al.

Summary: This study explored the anatomical origins of the extraocular muscles and their connections with the skull base dura. The results indicate the existence of a common tendinous origin of the extraocular muscles that is continuous with the skull base dura. Additionally, variations in orbital anatomy, such as dual or accessory muscle slips, were observed.
