Mass transfer of multi-pollutants over titania-based SCR catalyst: A molecular dynamics study

Qi Xin et al.

Summary: Mass transfer has a significant impact on the NOx removal process in SCR, but characterizing the transport of gaseous species involved in the process at the nano-scale remains challenging. This study investigates the use of non-equilibrium molecular dynamics simulations to study the mass transfer of multi-pollutants over a titania-based catalyst. A dual control-volume model is proposed to simulate the transport of typical gaseous molecules, and the effects of temperature, pore width, hydroxyl sites, and competitive diffusion on diffusivity are studied. The results show that temperature and surface sites have a greater impact on NH3 than NO and SO2, with the influence of surface sites strongly dependent on size.

Mechanistic assessment of NO oxidative activation on tungsten-promoted ceria catalysts and its consequence for low-temperature NH3-SCR

Wenshuo Hu et al.

Summary: Ceria has attracted great interest as a catalyst for low-temperature selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NOx due to its abundant surface oxygen species and redox property. The mechanism of how this redox property contributes to its SCR activity, however, is still debated. In this study, a model tungsten-promoted ceria catalyst was used to investigate the connections between NO oxidative activation and SCR turnovers. The results show that NO activation to nitrite intermediates is more favorable than oxidation to NO2, suggesting the prevalence of NO activation to nitrites in the SCR reaction.

Oxygen vacancies in the catalyst: Efficient degradation of gaseous pollutants

Shenghao Zhao et al.

Summary: This paper reviews recent research advances in improving the performance of catalysts for the degradation of gaseous pollutants based on controlling oxygen vacancies (OVs). The relationship between OVs and the degradation performance of typical gaseous pollutants is elucidated, and various approaches for generating and characterizing OVs in catalysts are summarized. The challenges and future opportunities for the development of oxygen-deficient catalysts are also discussed in this review.

Enzyme-free colorimetric detection of uric acid on the basis of MnO2 nanosheets-mediated oxidation of 3, 3?, 5, 5?- tetramethylbenzidine

Li Huang et al.

Summary: Researchers prepared MnO2 nanosheets as the oxidant of TMB and the recognizer of UA, and established a simple colorimetric approach for sensitive detection of UA. MnO2 nanosheets exhibited strong oxidation capacity and could oxidize TMB to generate a blue oxidation product (oxTMB). However, the presence of UA inhibited MnO2 nanosheets-mediated TMB oxidation, resulting in the decreasing of absorbance. The approach showed good performance in determining UA in human urine samples.

Experimental and Theoretical Insight into the Facet-Dependent Mechanisms of NO Oxidation Catalyzed by Structurally Diverse Mn2O3 Nanocrystals

Ying Xin et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of different exposed crystal facets on the catalytic performance of Mn2O3 for NO oxidation by constructing rod- and particle-like Mn2O3 nanocrystals. The results show that different crystal structures lead to diverse catalytic behaviors of Mn2O3, especially in terms of poisoning resistance. Additionally, this work provides valuable design principles for future studies to improve other metal oxide catalysts.

Synthesis of Nitrogen-Doped KMn8O16 with Oxygen Vacancy for Stable Zinc-Ion Batteries

Guodong Cui et al.

Summary: A multifunctional modification strategy is proposed to synthesize N-doped KMn8O16 with abundant oxygen vacancy and large specific surface area. The N-KMO cathode exhibits improved stability and reaction kinetics, surpassing pristine MnO2 and MnO2 with only oxygen vacancy. The energy storage mechanism of N-KMO cathode is mainly a H+ and Zn2+ co-insertion/extraction process.

Unraveling the Mechanism of Ammonia Selective Catalytic Oxidation on Ag/Al2O3 Catalysts by Operando Spectroscopy

Guangyan Xu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the mechanism of ammonia selective catalytic oxidation (NH3-SCO) on Ag/Al2O3 catalysts using operando spectroscopy. The results showed that silver nanoparticles are the active sites for NH3 oxidation, while silver cations are inert in this reaction. The NH3-SCO reaction on 10 wt % Ag/Al2O3 could be divided into three regions, and the reaction pathway is closely related to oxygen activation on the silver nanoparticles.

The combination effects of K2O and PbO poisoning on NH3-SCR TiO2-CeO2 catalyst

Jun Cao et al.

Summary: This study investigated the poisoning effects of K2O and PbO on the NH3-SCR performance of TiO2-CeO2 catalyst, and found a stronger toxicity when both were introduced simultaneously, hindering electron transfer and surface acidity. Furthermore, the combination of K and Pb reduced the activation performance of NOx species and did not alter the Langmuir-Hinshelwood mechanism of the catalyst.
