Targeting the Nrf2 signaling pathway using phytochemical ingredients: A novel therapeutic road map to combat neurodegenerative diseases

Xue Bai et al.

Summary: Nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) is a key transcription factor that regulates the body's antioxidant stress response. Phytochemical ingredients have the potential to activate Nrf2 and reduce oxidative stress injury in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases (NDDs). Further clinical trials are needed to determine the safety and efficacy of Nrf2 activators for NDDs.

Buckwheat tartary regulates the Gsk-3β/β-catenin pathway to prevent neurobehavioral impairments in a rat model of surgical menopause

Anil Kumar Rana et al.

Summary: Menopause is a natural aging process where decreased sex hormone levels lead to neurobehavioral complications. Hormone replacement therapy is commonly used but has adverse effects. In this study, buckwheat tartary seed extract was investigated and found to rescue memory and behavior in ovariectomized rats. The extract also reversed oxidative stress, neuroinflammation, and altered gene expression, making it a better option for managing neurobehavioral complications associated with menopause.

A Perspective on Nrf2 Signaling Pathway for Neuroinflammation: A Potential Therapeutic Target in Alzheimer's and Parkinson's Diseases

Sarmistha Saha et al.

Summary: Neuroinflammation plays a crucial role in Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease, leading to protein aggregation and neuronal damage. Current drug treatments have failed, so alternative therapeutic strategies are needed. Research has shown the potential of the Nrf2 signaling pathway in antioxidant and anti-inflammatory functions, making it a promising new approach for treating neurodegenerative diseases.

Hydroxyl containing benzo[b]thiophene analogs mitigates the acrylamide induced oxidative stress in the zebrafish larvae by stabilizing the glutathione redox cycle

B. Haridevamuthu et al.

Summary: Compounds BP and EP exhibited strong in vitro free radical scavenging ability. The maximum tolerated concentration of the compounds in zebrafish larvae was 80 μM. The antioxidant system in zebrafish larvae was dysregulated due to acrylamide exposure, and improvement was observed when acrylamide-exposed larvae were treated with compounds BP and EP. These compounds enhanced SOD and CAT activity, reduced ROS and lipid peroxidation levels, and decreased cell death in zebrafish larvae. Furthermore, BP and EP stabilized glutathione-related gene expressions, thus improving the glutathione redox cycle.
