Ratiometric fluorescence sensing of hazardous ciprofloxacin based on aggregation induced emission enhancement of thiolate-protected gold nanoclusters induced by La3+ ion

Ashraf M. Mahmoud et al.

Summary: An ultrasensitive and reliable ratiometric sensor was designed for the detection of ciprofloxacin. The sensor utilized thiolate-protected gold nanoclusters (GSH@AuNCs) with high fluorescence quantum yield and stability. In the presence of lanthanum (La3+) ions, the emission of GSH@AuNCs was increased due to the formation of La3+/GSH@AuNCs system and aggregation-induced emission enhancement (AIEE). However, the addition of ciprofloxacin resulted in the removal of La3+ ions from GSH@AuNCs, leading to a decrease in fluorescence emission. Under optimized conditions, the sensor showed linear response to ciprofloxacin concentration and demonstrated high reliability and sensitivity in the detection of ciprofloxacin in human urine and milk samples.

Bifunctional ratiometric sensor based on highly fluorescent nitrogen and sulfur biomass-derived carbon nanodots fabricated from manufactured dairy product as a precursor

Rasha M. K. Mohamed et al.

Summary: Novel biomass-derived carbon dots co-doped with nitrogen and sulfur were synthesized from milk powder and methionine precursors. The carbon dots were used for ratiometric fluorescence sensing of Cu (II) and risedronate sodium. The sensing platform showed high sensitivity and selectivity, detecting Cu (II) and risedronate sodium in a wide concentration range with low LODs. The system was successfully applied to determine Cu (II) and risedronate sodium in different sample matrices with good accuracy and precision.

A novel dual emission ratiometric fluorescence sensor Eu3+/CDs@UiO-66 to achieve Cu2+detection in water environment

Liping Peng et al.

Summary: A novel dual-emission ratiometric fluorescent sensor Eu3+/CDs@UiO-66 was synthesized by post-synthesis modifying of UiO-66, and it was utilized for the determination of Cu2+ ions. The material showed distinct emission peaks at 394 nm and 615 nm, and the fluorescence intensity ratio (F394/F615) linearly increased with increasing Cu2+ concentration. The detection limit was calculated to be 51 nM, and it can also be applied to the detection of Cu2+ in environmental water samples.

Naphthalene-2,3-dicarboxaldehyde as a pulsed-post column derivatization reagent; comparison with two alternative o-phthalaldehyde based chemistries for the determination of histamine

Apostolia Tsiasioti et al.

Summary: In this study, naphthalene-2,3-dicarboxaldehyde (NDA) was used in Pulsed-PCD, a new concept for on-line post column derivatization (PCD) coupled with liquid chromatography. The use of expensive reagents in PCD was minimized by introducing the reagents into the mobile phase flow at precise timing. NDA-CN chemistry was applied to determine histamine in food samples, while two additional methods based on histamine reactions with o-phthalaldehyde (OPA) were developed. The consumption of PCD reagents was significantly reduced by using a 50 μl pulse (OPA/NDA + Buffer) in all three methods.

One-step hydrothermal synthesis of fluorescent silicon nanoparticles for sensing sulfide ions and cell imaging

Chao Yang et al.

Summary: We have developed a hydrothermal method for synthesizing fluorescent silicon nanoparticles (F-SiNPs) with yellow-green emission, which showed excellent stability and good biocompatibility. By utilizing the specific reaction between S2- and 5,5'-dithiobis-(2-nitrobenzoic acid) (DTNB), a colorimetric assay for S2- was achieved. The F-SiNPs could be combined with the colorimetric detection system to construct a probe for fluorescence turn-off sensing S2- in aqueous solution due to inner filter effect.
