Investigation on the performance of solar still with thermoelectric cooling system for various cover material

Nursyahirah Mohd Shatar et al.

Summary: An experimental investigation was conducted to examine the impact of varying TEC cooling power on a solar still using different cover materials. It was found that the productivity of the solar still with a glass cover increased by up to 76% when using a TEC current of 4 A. The PMMA and PC covers had lower productivity compared to the reference solar still, with decreases of up to 48% and 82% respectively. The highest energy efficiency was achieved by a solar still with a glass cover, with values of 23.6%, while the PC and PMMA covers had lower energy efficiencies of 2.5% and 7.2% respectively. Economic analysis showed that the lowest cost per liter was achieved using a glass cover with TEC cooling, at $0.042.
