Seismic behaviour of sandy cutting slope in large-scale shaking table test

Chonglei Zhang et al.

Summary: Large-scale shaking table tests were conducted to investigate the seismic instability mechanism of a sandy cutting slope during the construction of the Sichuan-Tibet railway. The dynamic stress and residual strain responses under different seismic excitations were clarified, and the critical failure state analysis was used to examine the stress-strain characteristics and shear zone development. The model test results provide guidance for studying seismic instability mechanisms and improving retaining reinforcement technology of granular soil slopes.

The Effect of Discontinuity Orientation and Thickness of the Weathered Layer on the Stability of Lesser Himalayan Rock Slope

Arunava Ray et al.

Summary: This study examines the effect of discontinuity orientations and thickness of the weathered layer on the stability of jointed phyllite rock slopes in the Lesser Himalayan region. Numerical simulation is used to assess the performance of the slope under different conditions. The results indicate that the stability of the slope depends on the relative orientation and distribution of the joint sets and the thickness of the weathered layer.

Shaking Table Model Test to Determine Dynamic Response Characteristics and Failure Modes of Steep Bedding Rock Slope

Jinyu Dong et al.

Summary: Through a large-scale shaking table test, the acceleration, displacement, acoustic emission, and failure mode of a steep bedding rock slope under earthquake action were investigated. The acceleration response of the slope was influenced by elevation and distance, and the acceleration amplification factor changed with the increase in frequency and amplitude.

Large-scale shaking table test on seismic behaviour of anti-slide pile-reinforced bridge foundation and gravel landslide: a case study

Chonglei Zhang et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the seismic response and instability process of a double-row anti-slide pile-reinforced bridge foundation and gravel landslide through large-scale shaking table tests. The results show that reinforcing the bridge foundation with back-row anti-slide piles can reduce the effect of landslide thrust and mitigate seismic effects.

A Comparative Study of the Seismic Performances and Failure Mechanisms of Slopes Using Dynamic Centrifuge Modeling

Hualin Cheng et al.

Summary: Dynamic centrifuge model tests were conducted to study the seismic performance of sand slopes under different earthquake ground motions and slope angles. The results showed that increasing earthquake intensity led to a decrease in soil rigidity, an increase in damping ratio, and an increase in both dynamic response and predominant period of slopes; different ground motions caused the acceleration response spectra of slopes to be completely different, with the Northridge seismic wave with low-frequency component being closest to the predominant period of the slope model; the slope angle was found to affect the acceleration response and predominant period of slopes.
