Shock tube and multi-species laser absorption measurements of rate constants for methanol pyrolysis

Shengkai Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, quantitative and high-accuracy measurements of multiple rate constants for the reaction kinetics of methanol pyrolysis were conducted using shock tube experiments. The reactions investigated include the thermal dissociation of methanol and its major fragments, as well as their H-abstraction by H and CH3 radicals. Laser absorption time-histories of CH2O, CO, and H2O were measured and analyzed, and the joint posterior distribution of their rate constants was determined using a Bayesian approach with FFCM-1 as the base mechanism. Various uncertainties in the measurements, such as non-ideal effects in the shock tube and uncertainties in the mixture composition and absorption model, were thoroughly analyzed. A comparative analysis using other reaction models was also briefly discussed.

An Investigation of the Kinetic Modeling and Ignition Delay Time of Methanol-Syngas Fuel

Yexin Chen et al.

Summary: The recycling of exhaust heat in internal combustion engines to dissociate and blend methanol shows promise for improving engine efficiency and reducing emissions. This study proposes a kinetic model for the methanol-syngas fuel and investigates the effects of equivalence ratio, pressure, and dissociated methanol ratio on ignition delay time through experiments and analysis. The results indicate that the ignition delay time increases with higher dissociated methanol ratio, especially at low temperatures, but decreases with higher temperatures.

Effects of blending dissociated methanol gas with the fuel in gasoline engine

Yankun Jiang et al.

Summary: A new gasoline-syngas engine was proposed in this research to improve thermal efficiency and reduce emissions. By using exhaust heat to dissociate methanol into syngas, the engine achieved a decrease in fuel consumption rate, CO and HC emissions, and an increase in NOx emissions. Blending dissociated methanol gas with gasoline showed promising prospects for energy efficiency and emission reduction.
