Hybrid Dispersion Engineering based on Chiral Metamirror

Jinxing Li et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a novel method for dispersion control in optical systems - chirality-assisted phase modulation, which allows for engineered dispersion characteristics of meta-atoms. Two hybrid dispersion-engineered metamirrors are constructed and tested to demonstrate the effectiveness and flexibility of this method. This research opens up a new approach for dispersion control and provides new insights for metasurface design.

Dynamic beam all-direlectric coding metasurface converter based on phase change materials of GST

Xianyu Huang et al.

Summary: In this paper, a cross-shaped all-dielectric metasurface based on GST interlayer is proposed, which can achieve ultra-high transmittance and complete 2 pi phase coverage in the near-infrared band. The design features switchable beam deflection, arbitrary coding, and focusing functions. Multipole decomposition and field distribution characterization are used to reveal the regulation principles of the unit cell before and after switching. Holographic reconstruction based on GS algorithm is also discussed.

Rotational freedom thin-film solar cell using a reconfigurable nano-antenna with 4-Dimethyl-Amino-N-methyl-4-Stilbazolium Tosylate

Mohammad Ali Shameli et al.

Summary: In this paper, a new method for achieving the rotational freedom of thin-film solar cells using reconfigurable nano-antennas is proposed. The numerical results demonstrate that the absorption of the solar cell is increased in large wavelengths of sunlight when equipped with nano-antennas, resulting in a significant enhancement of the short circuit current. The proposed reconfigurable structure also maintains good performance at different angles of incidence.

Millimeter-wave frequency reconfigurable antenna using simple VO2-based paired metasurface

Jinghao Li et al.

Summary: This article proposes and studies a millimeter-wave frequency-reconfigurable metasurface antenna by electrically controlling vanadium dioxide (VO2). The antenna achieves reconfigurability by integrating a VO2 film between two simple rectangle metasurface cells. The antenna operates at independent frequencies when the VO2 film is in metallic or insulating state, and a DC bias circuit is designed to switch between the two states easily. The prototype demonstrates high gain and simple structure, making it suitable for mmW wireless communication applications.

Programmable Wavefront Control in the Visible Spectrum Using Low-Loss Chalcogenide Phase-Change Metasurfaces

Parikshit Moitra et al.

Summary: All-dielectric metasurfaces provide complete control of light's amplitude and phase at sub-wavelength scales, but their lack of tunability after fabrication is a limitation. This study demonstrates a programmable all-dielectric metasurface made of Sb2S3 PCM, which shows high efficiency phase modulation and reversible optical modulation in the visible spectrum. These novel chalcogenide PCM metasurfaces have the potential to be used in spatial light modulators and impact various applications.

Decoupling Energy Efficient Approach for Hybrid Precoding-Based mmWave Massive MIMO-NOMA With SWIPT

Ahlam Jawarneh et al.

Summary: In this paper, the problem of energy consumption in millimeter-wave massive MIMO systems is addressed by employing non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) and simultaneous wireless information and power transmission technology (SWIPT). The proposed method includes a user grouping algorithm, analog RF precoder design, low-dimensional digital baseband precoder design, and joint power allocation and power-splitting maximization. The simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness and improved efficiency of the proposed method compared to state-of-the-art designs and conventional SWIPT-enabled mmWave MIMO-NOMA systems.

Non-Local Reconfigurable Sparse Metasurface: Efficient Near-Field and Far-Field Wavefront Manipulations

Vladislav Popov et al.

Summary: Metasurfaces have shown powerful abilities in manipulating electromagnetic waves, but conventional metasurfaces have limitations in efficiency due to local electromagnetic responses. The efficiency of reconfigurable metasurfaces decreases with high density of meta-atoms, prompting the implementation of sparse metasurfaces with strong electromagnetic non-local features for better performance. By experimentally realizing a dynamic sparse metasurface with as few as 8 meta-atoms per lambda(2) area, the door is opened to high-efficiency real-time reprogrammable functionalities in various applications such as beam manipulation and imaging holography.
