High-efficiency stabilization of dredged sediment using nano-modified and chemical-activated binary cement

Lei Lang et al.

Summary: This study developed a high-efficiency nano-modified and chemical-activated binary cement for the disposal of dredged sediment. The effects of chemical-activation and nano-modification on the strength development of the cement-stabilized sediment were investigated, and the optimum mix of the binary cement was determined. The results showed that the binary cement exhibited higher stabilization efficiency and better economic applicability compared to ordinary Portland cement, forming a dense cemented soil matrix.

Removal of pollutants from aqueous product of Co-hydrothermal liquefaction: Adsorption and isotherm studies

Oluwayinka M. Adedeji et al.

Summary: In this study, the adsorption of oxidizable reducing pollutants from aqueous co-product (ACP) onto granular and powdered activated carbon (GAC and PAC) was investigated. The results showed that PAC exhibited higher adsorptive capacity than GAC for COD, boron, copper, and phenol. The adsorption isotherms followed different models for PAC and GAC, and the Free Energy Change (Delta G0) indicated spontaneous reactions for copper and phenol adsorption. This study provides important information for the design of adsorption systems for ACP treatment.

Adsorption Kinetics and Isotherm Modeling of Lead in Calcareous Soils: Insights into Thermodynamics, Desorption, and Soil Properties

Farzad Rassaei

Summary: This study investigated the adsorption, desorption, and kinetics of lead (Pb) in calcareous soils. The pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second-order, and Elovich kinetic models were used to determine the adsorption. The Langmuir isotherm model best described the Pb adsorption data, and the Pb adsorption was significantly correlated with soil properties. Thermodynamic parameters indicated that Pb adsorption was thermodynamically possible and spontaneous, and the samples had a high affinity for Pb. The clay soil had the highest Pb adsorption capacity and the lowest Pb desorption, while the sandy clay loam desorbed more Pb over time.

Adsorption characteristics of dopamine by activated carbon: Experimental and theoretical approach

M. Khnifira et al.

Summary: In this study, the adsorption mechanism of dopamine (DP) drug on activated carbon (AC) was investigated using experimental and theoretical approaches. Experimental results showed that the Elovich kinetic model and Langmuir model provided the best description of the adsorption phenomenon. The adsorption process was found to be spontaneous and endothermic. Based on theoretical calculations, the interaction mechanisms of DP on the AC (001) surface were proposed.

Removal of Penicillin G from aqueous medium by PPI@SBA-15/ZIF-8 super adsorbent: Adsorption isotherm, thermodynamic, and kinetic studies

Mehdi Sadeghi et al.

Summary: In this paper, SBA-15 nanoparticles were synthesized from TEOS precursor using the sol-gel process. The synthesized nanoparticles were combined with Poly propylene imine and ZIF-8 for the removal of Penicillin G. Various characterization techniques were used to analyze the synthesized morphology. The optimization of parameters and the application of different models revealed the best fitting Langmuir isotherm and pseudo-second-order model for the adsorption process.

Application of zeolite based nanocomposites for wastewater remediation: Evaluating newer and environmentally benign approaches

Emmanuel Christopher Umejuru et al.

Summary: The presence of heavy metal ions and emerging pollutants in water poses a great risk to various biological ecosystems due to their high toxicity. Researchers worldwide are interested in developing efficient and environmentally friendly methods to decontaminate these waters. Adsorption and photocatalysis have been widely used for water treatment, but the discussion and analysis of zeolite-based composites as adsorbents are limited. Zeolites, as porous aluminosilicates, are excellent candidates for wastewater treatment due to their various pollutant removal mechanisms. This review provides an overview of the current developments in fabricating and applying zeolite-based nanocomposites as adsorbents and photocatalysts for extracting heavy metals, dyes, and emerging pollutants from wastewaters. The review also examines the effect of weight ratio on photocatalyst, photodegradation pathways, and various factors influencing photocatalysis and adsorption.

Lead, zinc, nickel and chromium ions removal from polluted waters using zeolite formed from bauxite, obsidian and their combination with red mud: Behaviour and mechanisms

Claudia Belviso et al.

Summary: Synthetic zeolites obtained from natural sources and waste material were tested for heavy metals removal. Zeolite X and sodalite synthesized from obsidian and red mud showed better adsorption capabilities compared to Zeolite A formed from treated bauxite. The adsorption mechanisms were attributed to ion exchange and precipitation, and the location of metal-ions inside the zeolite channels was determined. Different magnetic properties were also identified based on the raw materials used for synthesis.

Chloride Adsorption Capacity of Monocarbonate: The Importance of Iron Doping

Xiao Huang et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the discrepancies in chloride adsorption between undoped and Fe-doped monocarbonates. The results indicate that Fe-doped C-4(A,F)(C)H(11) exhibits superior chloride adsorption compared to undoped C(4)A(C)H(11) due to the weakening of hydrogen bond restrictions. A pseudo-second-order kinetic model and Freundlich isotherm are suitable for characterizing the chloride adsorption process on monocarbonates. This study holds great promise for improving the chloride penetration resistance of Portland cement.

Copper(II) ions removal from model galvanic wastewater by green one-pot synthesised amino-hypophosphite polyampholyte

Lukasz Stala et al.

Summary: This study found that the amino-hypophosphite polyampholyte (AHP) obtained from cheap and safe building blocks has a comparable sorption capacity to some ion scavengers available on the market. It was demonstrated that AHP can effectively remove Cu(II) from both acidic and basic galvanic wastewater, reducing the Cu(II) concentration significantly. The presence of Ca(II) and Na(I) did not have a significant influence on the removal process.

Decontamination of copper(II) from aqueous solutions using synthesized polyaniline/montmorillonite composite

Adel A. El-Zahhar et al.

Summary: The adsorptive removal of copper(II) ions from aqueous solutions was investigated using a polyaniline/montmorillonite composite adsorbent. The study examined the controlling parameters of pH, adsorbent dose, ion concentration, and temperature. The results showed that the optimal pH for copper(II) removal was 5.5, and the equilibrium adsorption capacity of the composite adsorbent was 99.61 mg g-1. The experimental data followed the Langmuir adsorption isotherm model, with a maximum adsorption capacity of 100.01 mg g-1. Kinetic studies indicated that the experimental results fit well with a pseudo-second-order kinetic model, suggesting chemisorption involvement.
