Typical layered structure bismuth-based photocatalysts for photocatalytic nitrogen oxides oxidation

Chi Ma et al.

Summary: Traditional NOx treatment methods are not effective for eliminating low concentration NOx, especially at ppb levels. However, photocatalytic oxidation using Bi-based photocatalysts with the layered structure shows promise in removing low concentration NOx under mild reaction conditions. This review focuses on typical layered Bi-based photocatalysts for photocatalytic NOx oxidation and summarizes strategies to improve their oxidation activity. The mechanism involving various free radicals and non-NO2 selectivity are also discussed. The article highlights the need for further research in developing photocatalysts with high activity, wide light absorption range, and non-NO2 selectivity.

Bi-rich BixOyBrz-based photocatalysts for energy conversion and environmental remediation: A review

Akshay Chawla et al.

Summary: Recently, BiOX-based photocatalysts have been extensively used in energy and environmental applications. However, the challenges of inadequate reduction activities and positive conduction band minimum (CBM) potential have hindered the performance of BiOX. A potential solution to these constraints is the use of Bi-rich BixOyBrz photocatalysts, which exhibit favorable properties such as a perfect band gap in the visible region and a rich atomic composition. However, some Bi-rich BixOyBrz still face limitations in terms of charge recombination and conduction band position.

Mechanistic vision on polypropylene microplastics degradation by solar radiation using TiO2 nanoparticle as photocatalyst

Jeyavani Jeyaraj et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that TiO2 photocatalyst can effectively degrade polypropylene microplastics in water under sunlight irradiation. The weight loss percentage of microplastics after photocatalytic experiments was 50.5%.FTIR and 1H NMR spectroscopy results revealed the formation of peroxide and hydroperoxide ions, carbonyl, keto, and ester groups during the degradation process. EDS showed an increase in oxygen level and a decrease in carbon content, while SEM analysis showed the presence of holes, cavities, and cracks on the surface of the microplastics. These findings strongly support the formation of reactive oxygen species and the degradation of polypropylene microplastics facilitated by the photocatalyst under solar irradiation.

Activation of sulfite by ferric ion for the degradation of 2,4,6-tribromophenol with the addition of sulfite in batches

Zongping Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, the removal of 2,4,6-tribromophenol (TBP) using the ferric ion-activated sulfite [Fe(III)/S(IV)] process was investigated. The results showed that the batch addition of S(IV) improved the utilization efficiency of S(IV) and the removal of TBP. The primary reactive radical responsible for TBP degradation was found to be SO4•-. The maximum TBP removal was observed at pH 4.0, and the presence of oxygen was essential for this process. Increasing the dosages of Fe(III) and S(IV) initially increased the TBP removal, but then it decreased. The Fe(III)/S(IV) process was considered a good choice for the treatment of TBP due to the significant reduction in acute toxicity.
