These findings provide new insights into the biological toxicity of microplastics.

Molecular Mechanisms of RSV and Air Pollution Interaction: A Scoping Review

Summary: RSV is a major infectious agent in paediatrics and its relationship with air pollution has been frequently observed. This systematic review aimed to identify the molecular mechanisms implicated in the interaction between air pollutants and RSV. A total of 25 studies published between 1993 and 2020 were included, which mainly investigated the effects of cigarette smoke, particulate matter, nanoparticles, and carbon black. The findings suggest that air pollutants may facilitate viral entry, alter viral replication, and induce an inappropriate host response. Air pollution can also lead to damage to the epithelial barrier, decreased immune response, and an increased risk of inflammatory diseases such as emphysema.

Bioinformatic analyses of hydroxylated polybrominated diphenyl ethers toxicities on impairment of adrenocortical secretory function

Summary: This study identifies key genes potentially involved in the impairment of adrenocortical secretory function caused by hydroxylated polybrominated diphenyl ethers (OH-PBDEs). Functional enrichment analysis and protein-protein interaction network construction were performed to explore the underlying mechanisms. The results suggest that OH-PBDEs may disrupt endocrine metabolism, abnormal cell proliferation, DNA damage, and repair. The identified hub genes may play an important role in these dysfunctions.

Independent association between meteorological factors, PM2.5, and seasonal influenza activity in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, China

Summary: This study found a "hockey-stick association" between absolute humidity and the risk of influenza infections. The overall cumulative adjusted relative risk (ARR) was statistically significant when weekly mean absolute humidity was low (<10 mu g/m(3)) and high (>17.5 mu g/m(3). A slightly higher ARR was observed when weekly mean temperature reached over 30.5 degrees C. A statistically significantly higher ARR was observed when weekly mean relative humidity dropped below 67%. ARR increased statistically significantly with increasing rainfall. In brief, high temperature, wet and dry conditions, and heavy rainfall were the major risk factors associated with a higher risk of influenza infections.

Transcriptome Analysis of Rat Lungs Exposed to Moxa Smoke after Acute Toxicity Testing

Summary: A novel poisoning cabinet was used to assess the acute toxicity of moxa smoke in rats, with the results showing a maximum tolerable dose of 290.036 g/m(3) and LC50 of 537.65 g/m(3). DEGs implicated in cell components, binding, and cancer were significantly enriched in the experimental groups compared with the profile of the control group. The study confirmed the reliability of RNA-seq data for future evaluations of moxibustion safety and technology development.
