BuildMapper: A fully learnable framework for vectorized building contour extraction

Shiqing Wei et al.

Summary: This paper proposes an end-to-end learnable framework called BuildMapper for building contour extraction. It can directly and efficiently delineate building polygons without complex empirical post-processing. With the introduction of new methods and techniques in two components, the framework achieves state-of-the-art performance in building contour extraction.

Novel Adaptive Region Spectral-Spatial Features for Land Cover Classification With High Spatial Resolution Remotely Sensed Imagery

Zhiyong Lv et al.

Summary: In this article, two novel features, the Gaussian-weighting spectral (GWS) feature and the area shape index (ASI) feature, are proposed to improve land cover classification with high spatial resolution remotely sensed imagery. Experimental results show that the proposed features can enhance classification accuracies and complement each other to improve classification performance.

Multiscale Attention Network Guided With Change Gradient Image for Land Cover Change Detection Using Remote Sensing Images

Zhiyong Lv et al.

Summary: In this letter, a multiscale change detection neural network guided by a change gradient image (CGI) was proposed to improve the learning performance of deep-learning networks. A multiscale information attentional module was embedded in the backbone of UNet for the fusion of bitemporal images. Additionally, a position channel attention module (PCAM) and a change gradient guide module (CGGM) were introduced to enhance the network's attention to spectral and spatial information, while overcoming the negative effects of pseudo-change. The proposed approach outperforms seven state-of-the-art methods in terms of smoothing noise and improving detection accuracy, achieving a 1.67% increase in overall accuracy (OA) and a 3.00% increase in kappa coefficient.

Novel Piecewise Distance Based on Adaptive Region Key-Points Extraction for LCCD With VHR Remote-Sensing Images

Zhiyong Lv et al.

Summary: This article proposes a novel sparse key-point distance (SKPD) method based on adaptive region key-points extraction for measuring the change magnitude between bitemporal VHR_RSIs, aiming at land cover change detection (LCCD). The proposed approach includes three steps: exploring spatial-contextual information using an adaptive region generation algorithm, sparsely representing the adaptive region with the box-whisker plot theory, and defining a piecewise distance to measure the change magnitude between the bitemporal images. Experimental results based on four pairs of real VHR_RSIs and four state-of-the-art methods effectively demonstrate the superiority of the proposed approach in achieving LCCD with VHR_RSIs, with improvements in overall accuracy ranging from 5.25% to 22.24%.

PolyWorld: Polygonal Building Extraction with Graph Neural Networks in Satellite Images

Stefano Zorzi et al.

Summary: This paper introduces PolyWorld, a neural network that directly extracts building vertices from an image and connects them correctly to create precise polygons. The model predicts the connection strength between each pair of vertices using a graph neural network and estimates the assignments by solving a differentiable optimal transport problem. PolyWorld significantly outperforms the state of the art in building polygonization and achieves visually pleasing results in creating building polygons.
