Potential of phenolic compounds from pomegranate (Punica granatum L.) by-product with significant antioxidant and therapeutic effects: A narrative review

A. A. Saparbekova et al.

Summary: The abundance of epidemiological evidence suggests that a plant-based diet can reduce the occurrence of common diseases. Polyphenolic compounds in plants have therapeutic effects and are being explored as potential sources of specific drugs with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. Industrial food wastes from plant materials, such as apple peels and mashed potatoes, are considered low-cost sources of natural compounds that benefit human health.

Dose- and Intensity-Response Associations Between Leisure-Time Physical Activity and Markers of Inflammation and Oxidative Stress in Older Adults

Yijian Ding et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the dose- and intensity-response effects of leisure-time physical activity (LTPA) on inflammation and oxidative stress in older adults. Moderate LTPA can provide more benefits, and the effects of LTPA are more significant in older adults with chronic diseases.

Intracellular Oxidative Stress Induced by Physical Exercise in Adults: Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Zhanyi Zhou et al.

Summary: Exercise programs can improve an individual's antioxidative capacity, but inappropriate programs can induce oxidative stress. The severity of oxidative stress depends on the intensity and volume of exercise, as well as the individual's health condition. Recommendations include continuous aerobic exercise under moderate intensity or high-intensity interval training to enhance the body's redox balance, especially for unhealthy individuals.

The impact of red grape juice (Vitis labrusca)consumption associated with physical training on oxidative stress, inflammatory and epigenetic modulation in healthy elderly women

Caroline Dani et al.

Summary: Research has shown that a combination of physical training and red grape juice consumption can have positive effects on the immune system and antioxidant defenses of elderly women, leading to a reduction in interleukin 6 levels and an increase in antioxidant enzyme activity.

Comparison of Interventional Strategies to Improve Recovery after Eccentric Exercise-Induced Muscle Fatigue

Manuel Garcia-Sillero et al.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the effects of various recovery techniques on muscle tissue after eccentric exercise-induced muscle fatigue. The results showed that different techniques had positive effects on contraction time and radial displacement compared to untreated legs, with percussion therapy interventions showing potential for restoring muscle compliance. The various methods used yielded similar results, suggesting that percussion therapy may be more effective than mechanical vibration or foam roller interventions.

Effects of Curcumin Supplementation on Inflammatory Markers, Muscle Damage, and Sports Performance during Acute Physical Exercise in Sedentary Individuals

Kelly Aparecida Dias et al.

Summary: Curcumin has been shown to have positive effects on sedentary individuals undergoing acute physical exercise, reducing muscle damage, inflammation, and improving muscle performance. Further research is needed to ensure the benefits of curcumin supplementation during acute and high-intensity physical exercises, as well as to elucidate additional mechanisms.

Creatine Supplementation, Physical Exercise and Oxidative Stress Markers: A Review of the Mechanisms and Effectiveness

Hamid Arazi et al.

Summary: Oxidative stress is a result of imbalance between the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and their elimination by antioxidant mechanisms, exercise being one of the factors that can increase oxidative stress. Creatine, composed of essential and non-essential amino acids, may have positive effects as an antioxidant by increasing antioxidant enzyme activity and eliminating ROS.
