Tapping the rhizosphere metabolites for the prebiotic control of soil-borne bacterial wilt disease

Tao Wen et al.

Summary: Prebiotics are compounds that selectively stimulate beneficial microorganisms and can be used to manage human gut health. In this study, the authors identify metabolites from the rhizosphere soil that can be used as prebiotics to protect tomato and other Solanaceae crops from pathogen invasion. The application of these prebiotics also enriches the rhizosphere soil microbiome and enhances pathways related to carbon metabolism and autotoxin degradation.

Differential responses of the rhizosphere microbiome structure and soil metabolites in tea (Camellia sinensis) upon application of cow manure

Litao Sun et al.

Summary: This study investigates the relationship between the microbiome and metabolome in the rhizosphere of tea plants under different fertilization treatments and sampling time. The results show that the bacterial composition and enriched metabolic pathways in the rhizosphere are influenced by fertilizer/manure treatments and sampling time. Organic acids and fatty acids have been identified as potential metabolites mediating the plant-bacteria interaction in the rhizosphere. Specific bacteria genera have been found to regulate the relative contents of organic and fatty acids. Overall, this study provides insights into the changes of the rhizosphere microbiome and bacterially derived metabolites under different fertilizer regimes and contributes to the improvement of tea plantations.

Coronatine Modulated the Generation of Reactive Oxygen Species for Regulating the Water Loss Rate in the Detaching Maize Seedlings

Haiyue Yu et al.

Summary: The study investigates the role of Coronatine (COR) in counteracting drought stress by modulating reactive oxygen species (ROS) homeostasis, water balance, and antioxidant regulation in detached maize plants. COR decreases water loss rate and increases ROS production, while antioxidants eliminate the effect of water loss and decrease ROS production induced by COR. The results suggest that COR can improve maize performance under drought stress by modulating ROS homeostasis to maintain water loss rate and antioxidant enzyme activities.

Autotoxin Rg1 Induces Degradation of Root Cell Walls and Aggravates Root Rot by Modifying the Rhizospheric Microbiome

Yanguo Xu et al.

Summary: The research found that autotoxins can damage plant root systems and release a series of cell wall degradants, which can aggravate root rot disease by reshaping the rhizosphere microbiome. This process leads to the enrichment of pathogens and microorganisms positively related to the disease, while suppressing beneficial microorganisms.

Phytohormone signaling and crosstalk in regulating drought stress response in plants

Prafull Salvi et al.

Summary: Phytohormones play a crucial role in regulating plant biological processes, especially in response to drought stress. Hormones such as abscisic acid, auxin, and others are key players in mediating drought stress responses through their complex network of interactions.

Cellular Phosphorylation Signaling and Gene Expression in Drought Stress Responses: ABA-Dependent and ABA-Independent Regulatory Systems

Fumiyuki Soma et al.

Summary: Drought is a severe abiotic stress that induces numerous genes in plants, including key regulators like SnRK2s and stress-responsive transcription factors. Abscisic acid (ABA) plays a crucial role in plant response to drought stress by activating signaling pathways and gene expression. Understanding the molecular mechanisms involved in drought stress responses, including phosphorylation signaling and gene regulation pathways, is essential for improving crop resilience to drought conditions.

Drought stress and plant ecotype drive microbiome recruitment in switchgrass rhizosheath

Tie-Yuan Liu et al.

Summary: The study found that the rhizocompartments of switchgrass harbor distinct and overlapping microbial communities, with low complexity in the root compartments dominated by Proteobacteria and Firmicutes. Under drought conditions, there was selective enrichment of Cyanobacteria and Bacteroidetes in rhizosheath soil, while Proteobacteria and Firmicutes were selectively depleted. The rhizosheath microbiome assembly is driven by drought stress, with ecotype-specific recruitment revealing differences in drought stress responses.
