Mass Transfer Characteristics of CO2 and Blended Aqueous Solutions of [C2OHmim][Lys]/MDEA in a Microchannel

Zhenbin Xu et al.

Summary: This paper systematically investigates the two-phase flow and mass transfer process of CO2 and [C2OHmim]-[Lys]/MDEA mixed aqueous solution in a T-shaped microchannel. The effects of ionic liquid concentration and two-phase flow ratio on bubble length, specific surface area, gas holdup, and mass transfer coefficient are experimentally studied. The results show that the mixed solution of [C2OHmim]-[Lys]/MDEA significantly enhances two-phase mass transfer compared to a single N-methyldiethanolamine aqueous solution. New correlations for predicting the bubble initial length and the volumetric mass transfer coefficient are proposed based on the experimental data.

Process intensification of dry reforming of methane by structured catalytic wall-plate microreactor

Anthony Basuni Hamzah et al.

Summary: This study aims to process-intensify Dry reforming of methane (DRM) by structuring CWPMR, which creates void spaces and micro-baffles in the packed layer and blow-through channel. The proposed micro-structure enhances convective heat and mass transfer, resulting in improved reaction efficiency. Particle-resolved CFD simulations confirm the beneficial effects of the microstructure on flow distribution in CWPMR, while reaction experiments demonstrate that the micro-structured CWPMR significantly outperforms the conventional reactor in reducing carbon deposition.

Direct oxidation of benzene to phenol in a microreactor: Process parameters and reaction kinetics study

Hailing Zhao et al.

Summary: The direct synthesis of phenol from benzene and hydrogen peroxide was investigated in a microreactor, with focus on the effects of process parameters on reaction performance. A novel method was proposed to calculate the actual residence time for the reaction process, especially at high temperatures. The activation energies for phenol synthesis, hydrogen peroxide decomposition, and p-benzoquinone formation were also determined in the study.

Regulation of gas-liquid Taylor flow by pulsating gas intake in micro-channel

Yaheng Zhang et al.

Summary: Bubble formation mechanism and slug flow characteristics in a T-junction rectangular micro-channel under pulsating gas intake conditions were studied through experimental and numerical simulation. Under pulsating gas intake conditions, the bubble length is shorter, the liquid slug length is longer, and the bubble velocity varies periodically over time, transforming into wave flow when the pulsation energy reaches a critical value.

Co-precipitation continuous synthesis of the Ni-Rh-Ce0.75Zr0.25O2-δ catalyst in the membrane dispersion microreactor system for n-dodecane steam reforming to hydrogen

Qiangqiang Xue et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that catalysts synthesized using a membrane dispersion microreactor system have more oxygen vacancies and uniformly supported active metals, lower apparent activation energies, and higher initial hydrogen yields. In the continuous synthesis method, further improvements in initial hydrogen yield above 95% can be achieved by increasing mixing intensity, decreasing the ratio of dispersed to continuous phase, and increasing the spiral tube length to synthesize better-dispersed catalysts.

Intensified extraction and separation of zinc from cadmium and manganese by a slug flow capillary microreactor

Dong Zhang et al.

Summary: The selective extraction of zinc from sulphate effluents containing zinc, cadmium, and manganese was elaborately investigated using liquid-liquid extraction with a capillary microreactor operating in the slug flow regime. The separation of zinc from cadmium and manganese was significantly enhanced by controlling the residence time and mixture velocity in the capillary microreactor. High kLa of zinc and low kLa of cadmium and manganese were responsible for the significant separation performance in the slug flow microfluidic system.
