Choreftria shiranui, a new genus and species of cyclopoid copepod (Crustacea: Copepoda) associated with the worm goby from southern Japan, with the proposal of a new family

Summary: A new genus and species of cyclopoid copepod, Choreftria shiranuin. g., n. sp., was discovered on the worm goby, Taenioides snyderi Jordan & Hubbs, from mud flats in the Yatsushiro Sea, southern Japan. This new genus is characterized by distinct body segmentation, specific claws and antennae structures, and it does not belong to any known cyclopoid families, thus a new family, Choreftriidae, was established to accommodate it.

Redescription and further report of two buccal attaching fish parasitic cymothoids, Ceratothoa carinata (Bianconi, 1869) and Cymothoa bychowskyi Avdeev, 1979 (Crustacea: Isopoda) with a new record from the southern India Ocean

Summary: The present study reports two poorly known buccal-attaching fish-parasitic cymothoids, Ceratothoa carinata and Cymothoa bychowskyi, from Indian waters. The species Ceratothoa carinata is redescribed and illustrated based on an ovigerous female, which is the first record of this species in Indian waters. The poorly known Cymothoa bychowskyi is also redescribed and illustrated from female and male stages, infesting the red cornetfish Fistularia petimba.

Summary: This study reports an unusual caligid copepod, Anchicaligus nautili, infesting the deep-water chambered nautilus Nautilus pompilius in the Indian Ocean. The species is redescribed and illustrated based on materials recovered from the Andaman region in March 1985, indicating the first record of this species in Indian waters. The unique characteristics of Anchicaligus nautili include the presence of large lenses in the median eyes, postanal protrusions, and displacement of the caudal rami.
