An Updated Phylogenetic Assessment and Taxonomic Revision of Perenniporia sensu lato (Polyporales, Basidiomycota)

Xing Ji et al.

Summary: In this study, phylogenetic analyses were conducted on Perenniporia species and related genera using DNA sequences of multiple loci. It was found that the genus Perenniporia is polyphyletic. Based on morphology and phylogeny, 15 new genera were proposed, 2 new species were described, and 37 new combinations were proposed. Illustrated descriptions of the new species were provided, along with identification keys to Perenniporia and its related genera.

Fomes fomentarius and F. inzengae-A Comparison of Their Decay Patterns on BeechWood

Valentino Cristini et al.

Summary: Wood-decaying fungi play a role in the degradation of wood and its material properties. Fomes fomentarius and Fomes inzengae are two different species that colonize wood. This study compared the effects of degradation caused by both species on the anatomical, physical, and mechanical properties of beech wood. The results showed no significant difference in mass loss or moisture content between strains of both species. The density distribution of degraded and intact samples differed statistically. There was no significant difference in modulus of rupture between the two species. Both species exhibited simultaneous white rot and soft rot decay patterns. The findings suggest that the impact of both species on wood properties is not significantly different.

Multilocus phylogeny and taxonomy of European Melanoleuca subgenus Melanoleuca

Vladimir Antonin et al.

Summary: The taxonomically complex European Melanoleuca taxa with well-developed macrocystidia were revised and described in this study. The species were identified based on macro- and micromorphological characters as well as multilocus molecular data. A total of 11 separate species were recognized, including three newly described species. Additionally, the type species of the genus, Melanoleuca melaleuca, was discussed along with the taxonomic status of other older names.

New insights on Flaviporus (Polyporales) in the neotropics

Mauro C. Westphalen et al.

Summary: This study aims to identify monophyletic groups in the genus Flaviporus based on morphological features and a multigene molecular phylogeny. Based on the data, a new species, Flaviporus lacteus, is proposed and described. In addition, it is confirmed that F. liebmannii forms a species complex with at least two different species.

Diversity and Ecological Features of Phylogenetic Lineages of Tinder Fungus in the Urals

E. Zhuykova et al.

Summary: The xylotrophic fungus in the Urals and North Kazakhstan is a complex species consisting of two cryptic phylogenetic lineages. Their natural habitats overlap, but they have different host tree species. Based on the level of nucleotide divergence, they can be considered as cryptic sympatric infraspecific phylogenetic lineages of Fomes fomentarius sensu lato.
