LL-37 antimicrobial peptide and heterologous prime-boost vaccination regimen significantly induce HIV-1 Nef-Vpr antigen- and virion-specific immune responses in mice

Arash Nikyar et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated that the use of LL-37 for DNA delivery, Montanide 720 as an adjuvant, and heterologous DNA prime/protein boost strategy could significantly enhance immune responses and maintain cytokine secretion. Therefore, the heterologous DNA + LL-37 prime/protein + Montanide boost regimen can be considered as a potent strategy for the development of therapeutic HIV vaccines.

Different dendritic cells-based vaccine constructs influence HIV-1 antigen-specific immunological responses and cytokine generation in virion-exposed splenocytes

Alireza Milani et al.

Summary: In this study, researchers investigated the immune responses of mice immunized with dendritic cells loaded with HIV-1 proteins. The results showed that using Hsp27 as an adjuvant and a heterologous DC prime/protein boost regimen significantly improved immune responses. This finding suggests that the DC Hsp27-Nef prime/protein Hsp27-Nef boost regimen may be a promising candidate for HIV-1 vaccine development.

Summary: Various safe and effective COVID-19 vaccines are available, and a prime-boost vaccination regimen is recommended. Heterologous prime-boost vaccination may provide comparable immune response and address concerns such as vaccine supply, adverse effects, emerging strains, inadequate response in immunocompromised individuals, and waning immunity.

Interleukin-10 induces interferon-γ-dependent emergency myelopoiesis

Ana Cardoso et al.

Summary: The study reveals that IL-10 triggers emergency myelopoiesis (EM) by expanding the myeloid progenitor compartment and production of myeloid cells. Unexpectedly, IL-10 also reprograms CD4 and CD8 T cells to produce IFN-gamma, suggesting new perspectives for IL-10-based immunotherapies.

Diversity in heat shock protein families: functional implications in virus infection with a comprehensive insight of their role in the HIV-1 life cycle

Summary: Heat shock proteins (HSPs) are cellular proteins induced during stress conditions, acting as chaperones that regulate protein folding and determine the fate of mis-folded/unfolded proteins. In viral infections, certain HSP isoforms play significant roles with varying pro-viral or anti-viral activities.
