Machine learning approaches to estimate suspension parameters for performance degradation assessment using accurate dynamic simulations

Yongjun Pan et al.

Summary: In this study, various machine learning methods were comprehensively investigated for estimating the suspension parameters. The vehicle states calculated using a semi-recursive multibody model were used as inputs for training, and the results showed that the machine learning methods were able to accurately estimate the stiffness and damping coefficients of the suspension in real-time.

A common random effect induced bivariate gamma degradation process with application to remaining useful life prediction

Kai Song et al.

Summary: Due to the complexity and multi-functionality of modern products, there are usually multiple performance characteristics that can reflect the degradation states. This paper proposes a gamma process based degradation model for analyzing bivariate dependent degradation data. The model captures the dependency between the two degradation processes using a common random effect. A real-time prediction method for the remaining useful life of the product is also proposed using Bayesian method.

Reliability modelling of wheel wear deterioration using conditional bivariate gamma processes and Bayesian hierarchical models

Xinliang Dai et al.

Summary: This study aims to characterize wheel wear and identify wear differences between vehicles within a train using a conditional bivariate Gamma process and hierarchical Bayesian models. The results show that the wear laws vary throughout the train, and the first and last vehicles have higher wear rates. The study provides insights into the reliability of wheelsets and the progression of wear.

Inverse Gaussian process model with frailty term in reliability analysis

Lia H. M. Morita et al.

Summary: This study introduces a reliability model for systems adopting the degradation process using frailty. Degradation analysis can provide information about lifetime distribution components without observing failures. The research shows that ignoring frailty may compromise the asymptotic properties of maximum likelihood estimators.

Reliability estimation of mechanical seals based on bivariate dependence analysis and considering model uncertainty

Rentong Chen et al.

Summary: The study proposes a reliability estimation method for mechanical seals based on bivariate dependence analysis and consideration of model uncertainty. Degradation performance indicators such as friction torque and leakage rate are analyzed using various statistical methods, and model uncertainty is addressed using Bayesian Model Average method. The study demonstrates the necessity and effectiveness of using the Bayesian approach in degradation modeling for mechanical seals.

Semiparametric and nonparametric evaluation of first-passage distribution of bivariate degradation processes

Lochana K. Palayangoda et al.

Summary: The paper focuses on developing semiparametric and nonparametric approaches to model bivariate degradation processes. Various methods are proposed to estimate the first-passage time distribution of dependence bivariate degradation data, using saddlepoint approximation and bootstrap methods for empirical estimation of marginal FPT distributions, and empirical copula for nonparametric estimation of joint distribution. Monte-Carlo simulation study demonstrates the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed approaches, with a numerical example provided to illustrate the methodologies.

Reliability analysis for a system experiencing dependent degradation processes and random shocks based on a nonlinear Wiener process model

Fuqiang Sun et al.

Summary: This paper presents a more general reliability model that considers competing failure modes in complex systems caused by degradation processes and random shocks. A nonlinear Wiener process model is used to characterize degradation behavior, and the impact of random shocks on degradation processes, as well as the impact of degradation processes on random shocks, is investigated. The time-varying copula method is utilized to characterize dependence among multiple failure processes.
