Non-target molecular network and putative genes of flavonoid biosynthesis in Erythrina velutina Willd., a Brazilian semiarid native woody plant

Daisy Sotero Chacon et al.

Summary: This study focused on Erythrina velutina, a Brazilian native tree, and identified it as a rich source of bioactive phenolics, particularly flavonoids. Through metabolic and proteomic analysis, as well as integration with transcriptome data, key genes and transcription factors involved in flavonoid biosynthesis were identified. The findings provide a foundation for understanding the molecular and metabolic responses in this medicinally important species.

Erythrina velutina Willd. alkaloids: Piecing biosynthesis together from transcriptome analysis and metabolite profiling of seeds and leaves

Daisy Sotero Chacon et al.

Summary: This study presents a novel approach to analyze a non-model Fabaceae species through combined transcriptome and metabolome analyses. The results revealed the presence of 42 alkaloids in seeds and leaves of E. velutina, some of which are unique. By identifying 24 gene candidates, a putative pathway leading to the singular alkaloid diversity of this species was proposed, indicating potential biotechnological targets for modulation of erythrina alkaloids biosynthesis.

Two Erythrina alkaloids and three diarylpropanoids from Erythrina velutina

Kazuyuki Todoroki et al.

Summary: Two new Erythrina alkaloid glycosides and three new diarylpropanoid glycosides, along with nine known compounds, were isolated from the seeds of Erythrina velutina. The structures and absolute configurations of these new compounds were elucidated through comprehensive spectroscopic analyses and experimental and calculated ECD data. The inhibitory potency of these compounds against nitric oxide production in LPS-induced RAW 264.7 cells and their cytotoxicity against HeLa and HL-60 human cancer cell lines were also discussed.
