Evolution and prediction model of environmentally-persistent free radicals in biomass three-component pyrolytic carbon with pyrolysis temperature

Insight into the ammonia torrefaction and pyrolysis system of cellulose: Unraveling the evolution of chemical structure and nitrogen migration mechanism

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the mechanism of nitrogen doping, migration, and conversion during ammonia torrefaction and also explore the evolution law of the chemical structure of cellulose. The results showed that the ammonia torrefaction pretreatment could significantly optimize the distribution of nitrogen and oxygen elements in cellulose. The carbon skeleton first captured the active nitrogenous radicals to form -NHn-N, and pyridine-N and pyrrole-N originated from the conversion of -NHn-N. The existence of C@O played a major role in the immobilization of nitrogen. The nitrogen in bio-oil exists mainly in the form of five-and six-membered heterocycles. The correlation analysis showed that the main precursors for the formation of nitrogenous heterocyclic compounds were five-membered O-heterocyclic compounds. Finally, the product distribution characteristics in the torrefaction-pyrolysis systems were summarized, and the nitrogen doping and conversion mechanisms were proposed. This study expanded the boundaries of cellulose pretreatment and the production of high-value chemicals.

Effects of carbamide pretreatment on product distribution and bio-oil composition from fast pyrolysis of pine powder

Summary: The study investigated the effects of pyrolysis temperature and carbamide solution concentration on the distribution of products and the content of important compounds in bio-oil derived from carbamide-pretreated pine powder. The results showed that increasing the concentration of carbamide solution led to a decrease in bio-char yield. The highest bio-oil yield was achieved at a temperature of 400 degrees C and a carbamide solution concentration of 10%. Compared to bio-oil from raw pine powder, carbamide-impregnated pine powder produced bio-oil with a higher content of phenols and various nitrogenous compounds.

Effect of pyrolysis conditions on environmentally persistent free radicals (EPFRs) in biochar from co-pyrolysis of urea and cellulose

Summary: This study analyzed the characteristics and formation mechanism of EPFRs in biochar prepared under different conditions, finding that pyrolysis temperature is the main factor influencing the types of EPFRs, while urea ratio only affects the concentration of EPFRs and not the type. Understanding the behavior of EPFRs in nitrogen-rich biochar is significant for environmental protection.

Energy performances of molded charcoals from bamboo and Chinese fir blends: influence of pyrolysis temperatures and residence times

Summary: The effect of pyrolysis temperatures and residence times on the fuel characteristics of mixed biomass molded charcoals was investigated. It was found that the properties of molded charcoals were influenced by pyrolysis temperatures and residence times. As the pyrolysis temperatures and residence times increased, the content of volatile matters decreased, while the content of fixed carbon and ash increased.

Formation and regulation of environmentally persistent free radicals in biochar and removal of diethyl-phthalate in water

Summary: This study investigated the presence of environmentally persistent free radicals (EPFRs) in biochar obtained from different crop residues and examined the effects of pyrolysis temperature, residence time, and alkali/alkaline earth metals (AAEMs) on the concentration of EPFRs. The results showed that the concentration of EPFRs increased and then decreased with increasing pyrolysis temperature and showed the highest concentration at a residence time of 10 minutes. AAEMs had an impact on the concentration of EPFRs, with magnesium (Mg) having the strongest effect. Additionally, biochar derived from wheat straw impregnated with magnesium chloride (WSMg) showed the highest removal rate of diethyl phthalate (DEP), indicating its potential as an effective adsorbent for organic pollutants.
